I almost forgot, the above is true unless you are President Obama, in which case your are polling quite a bit higher than 0 with African Americans.

Not surprising. Blacks have historically voted Democratic. And he's a Mormon (which religion has racism in its recent past) businessman who's awkward out of the office, and has relatively little in common with minorities.

Actually, in TN, it's mostly poor, elderly whites who live in rural areas who have a hard time. A lot of the less populated counties here dont even have a state DL office so even though the ID is free, you blow a half day of time and at 100 miles worth of gas for whoever you can talk into giving you a ride.

There are a lot of folks, mostly elderly, who don't.

Meals on wheels or a relative brings food, the church bus picks them up for church and they dont fly and they never learned, or are too old, to drive.
As for alcohol purchase, in most places, if you look old enough, you can purchase it without an ID.

Oh, lotta people in the city dont own automobiles, lot of them, especially the ones living in cardboard boxes.  When I go to buy alcohol, I bend down, show them my pate, and say, this here's my ID.

Yes, airplanes, I guess I had forgot about the crumbling infrastructure supported by the republicans and the voluminous unemployed and abjectly impoverished people who argue wth themselves about should they skip the next three rent payments so that they can attend the symposium provided by the charitable republicans at the Hilton Marblehead entitled 'dog food or prescriptions, how to find a balance in nutrition and your health'.

Pennsylvania's voter repression law, I understand, requires a birth certificate to get the picture ID. Many people do not have the certificate and live a far distance from where they were born.

In order to get a DL in NJ (or a non-driver photo ID which is the same thing except it specifies that the holder is not allowed to drive), they require "six points of ID"

It's been a while since I've had to go through this process, myself so, I could be a bit hazy on the requirements but there are some things I remember, vividly ...

A birth cirtificate is only worth 3 points

A Socialist Security card (which we were promised, at inception, would never be used for ID) is worth 1 or 2 (I forget). Ironic because, these days, it's the easiest way to steal someone's identity.

An adoption document or name change is worth 1 or 2 points. I lived well over 100 miles from where this paper was archived and I managed to get someone to mail it to me.

The drivers' license which "costs" you six points to obtain is only worth 4 points.

This may sound like I'm making an argument against voters having proper ID. I'm not. My point is that people that want to do something (instead of wanting to piss and moan about how they're victims) seem to be able to get things done.

Why shouldn't we require people who vote in our elections are elligible to vote in them? The idea that this country be sovereign comes to mind.

I don't think it's cruel and unusual punishment to enforce our belief that only legal citizens who are still alive and in "peril" of having to pay taxes to increase government programs to other people (some who aren't citizens).

I don't think it violates any citizen's rights to protect the ideals of the very entity to which they claim to be a citizen.

If we continue the logic of "so what. It doesn't matter if they have ID" then, why does it matter if the person dispensing our prescribed narcotics has an education and a license to do so? Why does it matter if the person that wrote the presciption went to and graduated from medical school and holds a license to practice medicine?

Why does it matter? Because it's the rule of law and when that breaks down, society breaks down.

You don't like the law proscribing that only citizens are allowed to vote? Change it. Until it changes, only citizens are allowed to vote in our elections.

And the opposing point is that constructing barriers to voting is a bad idea.

In this case, getting things done will including throwing these idiots out of office.

Sounds,on it's face as if you are being facetious there Tim,but the truth is that Republican strategy does seem to include setting more roadblocks to voting,as they remove as many roadblocks as possible for purchases of firearms.
A bit curious for a political party no?
Of course when you look at the choices they face it becomes understandable.Any common sense approach to appeal to minority voters would send their base into apoplectic spasms of frenzied contortions.....so suppression is the only path open to them as they hold back the tides of demographic shifts.
Of course the more they suppress minority voting the bigger the divide in the country grows the more likely folks will feel the need to be armed to the teeth,hence the easy availability of firearms.

Isn't it amazing that these so called disenfranchised voters can somehow find a ride from Philly or Pittsburgh all the way to Harrisburg to protest the legislation, but they can't find an internet connection to order a birth certificate, or find a ride to the local dmv or bmv or whatever the fuck the call the driving facilities in Pa.

Isn't it amazing with around 55% of the eligible voters voting in presidential elections that there is so much voter fraud that cannot be found by the ones proclaiming it rife?
