Apologies if this has been done before.

I would like to ask what your favourite book is, why and your favourite quote from it.

I'm not sure what mine is at the mo but i will eventually decide and post it lol.

Thank you in advance.

I am a reader; I could not name one favorite book, but will mention one I'm reading NOW...and like very much:

"What the Stones Remember - A Life Rediscovered" by the poet Patrick Lane.

There is a quote on the front jacket:  "To read this book is to enter a state of enchantment"...I couldn't agree more.

While I could mention his passages on his love of being in his garden or the natural world (he gives a several-page discription of mating spiders), or his many, many varied experiences; I read this last night and it haunts me:

"I'd already drunk two bottles in the night and there I was with another while my hand slipped along the thin spines of poetry books in search of more.  Then the moring, the spasms, the wretched collapse of a body gone so far past life it was a thing and nothing more.  Tears, but not for anyone.  I licked them in hopes they were tears of alcohol.  I licked my skin for the sweat of alcohol."

I'll give it a shot...

Roger Zelazny - Absolutely anything the man ever wrote.  He's my favorite author.  Unfortunately he died on my birthday the year I started reading his books.  I recommend The Amber Chronicles (ten books) and any of his short stories.

David Eddings - The Belgariad and The Mallorean.

Marion Zimmer Bradley - Mists of Avalon, The Forest House, and any of the other books in the Avalon series.

I've been getting into Terry Pratchett lately.  I love me some Discworld.  I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan, too.

Dammit, I'm going to have to stop there.  I love to read.  I can't fall asleep unless I read.  And as you can tell I'm a sci-fi/ fantasy junkie.  There are just too many to list.

I don't have a single favorite book or quote, but I've always liked this:

quote:

Only after the year has grown cold does one know that the pine and cypress are the last to wither.

Three cheers if you know where it's from.  (Peach uses it as her forum signature.)

Regarding the quote:  "Only after the year has grown cold does one know that the pine and cypress are the last to wither."

LMAO... I meant to ask the OP about that in an e-mail!     Because I've just read that quote SOMEWHERE...and am puzzled WHERE... I Googled it.

and came up with his peach!   sheeshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
