And that's just off the top of my head. But we're different. Because....we don't need no stinking knowledge! We're a country proud of ignorance, mocking intelligence as "elitist." So here we are. For now. We will just have to learn how to cede the world stage ungracefully. And unnecessarily, in my view--but not the way we're going.

I mean, what can you say about Neil Armstrong that doesn't come back to he was a heckova guy and much admired? Nor did I intend the thread to be about the space program. I was thinking about that one "moment" in time when we were transfixed by an awesome national accomplishment while at the same time there was rioting in our streets and Vietnam was sucking us deeper into the swamp. I wonder if that wasn't the last moment of glory for American Exceptionalism. So, not meaning to be anti-American and not meaning to be critical of America in anyway except trying to take a hard look at her from the history of Empire.
