It's funny...all you Romney haters....you're missing the point (and that guy who blathered on about how the Republicans were the shit....learn to write bub).....

The guy (Romney) has economic chops.

Hate all you want but...the guy did it.

He did it.

He's done it....

And then again, Hitler had extensive foreign and diplomatic policy experience, as well as major chops in economic revitalization, political reform, social reform, and urban renewal. He did. Really. His record will stand for all history. Sounds like a good reason to vote for him, eh?

Hitler was one of the greatest leaders in all of history.

He was also sick, demented and a psychotic maniac.

Musicmystery -> RE: For all you Romney haters..... (8/28/2012 5:38:39 AM)

Hitler was a manipulative schemer who edged his way into power. Not exactly the leader of mythology.

All the more reason to vote for him, if we follow the modern realpolitik, eh?

Doesn't matter what you or I think of him....he was by every definition, a great leader.

He led millions of Germans out of poverty, literal desperation after WW1 and towards, and ultimately to....defeat

History has shown that without any doubt.

He didn't operate a Popsicle stand last I checked, and at last count, there were at least 3...if not thousands of books written about him.

Whether you agree with his politics (and I would presume no one on Earth does)....he was an infamous and incredible leader.

And did a competent job at running the country's finances despite the recession he inherited (and didnt whine about) and 9/11...until the Fannie/Freddie house of cards collapsed.

mnottertail -> RE: For all you Romney haters..... (8/28/2012 3:55:41 PM)

It wasn't fannie and freddie that led the collapse, it came from the deregulation of the banking industry, and mostly the repeal of glass-stegal.

You missed the point. He didn't inspire a nation to follow him...he wrestled his way into power.

Au contraire...no point missed at all....read Mein Kampf (within which he explained, long before he ever lifted a finger...exactly how he was going to accomplish every single detail, including the expulsion of the Jews) among other incredible books...he led in the beginning in the Putsch, and yes, like Hoffa, he bullied his way in to a seat at the table, but once seated....he led nonetheless. Magnificently. Until the end.

Again, one can debate his politics and I would presume history has done so rather exceptionally...but there is no doubt....he led millions, and they willingly followed, believing in his every utterance until, and only until, the Allies clearly were at their doorstep.

The Germans weren't at all convinced of his fallibility until they saw U.S., British and Russian flags in their town squares....and they didn't know about the soap works until years later, but he did indeed lead them to a false future, and they readily followed.

With vigor.

"Out of poverty"..........what planet are you on ? Hitler was like many famous "great leaders" a murdering phsycopath. Your idea of leading people out of poverty was way off the mark (Pun inended) The working close had two avenues open to them under Hitler.

The first was work where sent for very little wages, or go to a concentration camp. The second was conscription, which was introduced in 1935. Thats why unemployment figures were down, so lets have less of the crap supporting this great leader, who was a racist egomaniacal shit. << thats the polite version

Read history.

The man led his country out of poverty and then, ultimately to ruin.

You don't have to agree with his politics....and I can't imagine any sane person would but....what was decreed in WW1 as to Germany's repayment schedules (which were abrogated by Hitler among others) were beyond restrictive and insured nationwide poverty....and he brought them out of same.

I don't write this shit....it's simply a fact.

Which, by the way, is exactly why the Allies eventually forgave (it took almost 35 years after WW2 for it to actually happen) almost all of Germany's war debts/reparations.

That's history.

I didn't write it.

(And I wasn't there).

Sorry...one more thing...."the planet"?

Earth.

(The one we all call "Home").

Politesub53 -> RE: For all you Romney haters..... (8/28/2012 4:43:02 PM)

Its not history, its revisionist crap. The average German never came out of poverty due to Hitler.

Germanys so called prosperity was produced by having a closed economy and obtaining goods from axis nations via barter. During WW2 Germany plundered the countries it invaded to sustain itself. Any fool can work out there was no money in the system.

A great leader is a person who excels at leading others.

Hitler did that...in spades.

He mesmerized his people....to the point that decades later they were nationally ashamed at what they, under his leadership did.

He was also a crazy fuck.

Donald Trump is a phenomenal business man. The evidence is in how far he rose, then fell, and then rose again.

I can't think of too terribly many people who like the guy...but is he a great businessman?

I would argue that the facts, once again, have already written that story.

You don't have to like what Hitler did, and as mentioned previously, I can't imagine a single human on Earth who did or does....but to deny that he was a phenomenal leader is to deny reality.

dcnovice -> RE: For all you Romney haters..... (8/28/2012 6:33:26 PM)

FR

I think the debate of whether Hitler was "great" turns on the fact that the word has multiple definitions. Here are a few from Merriam-Webster, my trusty sidekick as an editor.

On the one hand . . .

: remarkable in magnitude, degree, or effectiveness <great bloodshed>

This would seem to apply to Hitler, who was horrifically effective at achieving his warped ends.

: remarkably skilled <great at tennis>

He did seem to be adept at amassing and wielding power--with tragic results.

But then . . .

: markedly superior in character or quality; especially : noble <great of soul>

Definitely not Hitler.

: used as a generalized term of approval <had a great time> <it was just great>

Again, no way.

Given the potential for confusion, my blue pencil would err on the side of caution, declining to apply the adjective to someone Eddie Izzard aptly described as a "mass-murdering fuckhead."

Sorry, but you are apples and oranges. No one's questioning his skill. The quibble was whether this was through "leadership" or manipulation of power. And it was the latter--nothing in what you're sharing refutes that.

MM, I've actually over time, come to respect your comments but....winners are always chosen by history.

And...history is (always) written by the winners.

The fact that the U.S. and Bush (while certainly not comparable to Hitler by any stretch) invaded countries based on knowingly false information, solely for one purpose...to assassinate a man who, by any possible measure was a "bad guy", but whom we (the U.S.) had held high level meetings with and were....a "friend" to....for decades....shouldn't sway anyone's arguments because of course....we're the good guys.

But, for those of you that want to debate my treatise (or my choice of words....rather....word), here's a nice little (rather odd) tidbit that arrived in today's Yahoo News:

http://news.yahoo.com/hitler-clothing-store-stirs-anger-india-133743884.html

Now....if you read into the comments section....you'll find that this guy couldn't be anything other than an opportunist.

A stoooopit one, but an opportunist nonetheless.

A dolt, at best.

Anyway....enjoy.

By the same token, you can use the old chestnut that any publicity is good publicity.

I could use that exposure for my business.
