Hahahahahahaha... Name one Hillary delegate that wasn't seated at the convention.

The true candidate for Liberty nearly made it. Illegal last minute rule changes are the only thing that stopped him.
The commotion today is about the RNC trying to make FURTHER changes to the system so that a Ron Paul type candidate can never again have any chance against the per-determined establishment candidates. The proposal waters down the democratic process even further so that the presidential candidates of the future will always be the 2 chosen by the powers-that-be, and fed to the masses by the bought and paid for media.

It's simpler than that. They are simply killing off the libertarian weed that has started to grow before any serious roots are established within the party. "

Shocked"?

I think not.

You're spot on about this... "the truth is out there" a few blocks past the barbed wire that makes the RNC Convention such a heart-warming event.

If you're a Paul adherent, I'd start talking Write-in Movement right away.

Did your family have a guy named Nero in it at any time?

Here's why I have a problem with what the RNC is doing.
It sets a terrible precedent. What happens in 4 years (or 8 or whatever) if there is no candidate with an unbeatable edge. Does the RNC pick the one that they think is 'acceptable'? This negates all the votes that folks like you and I cast in primaries.
What happens if a moderate has the lead in delegates and the RNC decides he isnt "idealogically pure" enough? Can they pull the same crap and decide another person will represent "The Party" and our votes don't count.

This is a slippery slope toward the kind of politics practiced in garden spots like N Korea, China and the old USSR.

^^^ this

Yes, it's unwise. Conventions are to VOTE for the nominee. When I read the rule change, I went, "Huh? There is officially NO nominee so how can he/she not seat certain delegates (or unseat) them? I'm wondering what the rule says as to just who gets to decide to seat which delegates.

You remember incorrectly.

There hasn't been a floor fight in either parties national convention since 1980.

The comment was there WAS "behind the scenes stuff." And that behind the scenes stuff PREVENTED a floor-fight.
--------------
The above brought to you by a Chicago-thru-and-thru man (who was 18 years old and in Chicago for the 1968 Democratic Convention.) Frigging whippersnappers don't even KNOW what a "floor-fight" is. LOL!

subrob1967 -> RE: RNC faces floor fight. (8/27/2012 10:28:42 PM)

The topic is moot

SternSkipper -> RE: RNC faces floor fight. (8/27/2012 10:53:31 PM)

Now you need to give Ron Paul a suitable time in front of HIS Delegates

Yeah, I'm sure the GOP is dying to take your advice[8|]

Ron Paul needs to take his old ass back to Texas and stfu.

A party in its death throes. I love it! Next on the agenda: get rid of the blue dogs.

They are almost gone.

No, they aren 't. Any movement which holds half the power in Washington, and legions of fanatical mouth breathers in the underbrush is still a force to be reckoned with. They are long dead as a national leadership, true, but they are still a major threat to National Security by any rational standard.

Your shock and dismay is going to be incredibly awesome in November when this almost dead party wins the election, and nominates the newest justice(s) to the Supreme Court.

Again, Ron Paul is not nearly as popular as you guys seem to think, yeah there's a few nutters out there, but they're about as numerous as the Nader voters in 08... A statistical blip on the radar. I'm more concerned about Gary Johnson running as an independent.

Paul and his supporters can do the sort
of damage John Anderson, Ross Perot
and Ralph Nader did. They can drain
votes from one of the candidates.
In this case the candidate will be Romney.
In close elections these things can and
do make a difference.

Paul supporters aren't rank and file
sheep and he's one of those guys
who attracts independents and
people who have never been political
til him. Scoff and laugh at them all
you wish but Bush Sr doesn't smile
when he hears the name Perot and
Ralph Nader doesn't make Al Gore
chuckle.

We'll see in November, won't we?

I already have a bet with Tazzy, care to make a wager too?

Winterapple -> RE: RNC faces floor fight. (8/28/2012 8:43:27 PM)

That Obama will win in November? Sure.

Our bet is that the loser has to post one nice, complimentary thing about the next administration a week for a year.

Just to let you know [;)]

I doubt it, considering the the most intellectually starved in the party won't.

Least you guys are demonstrating your true colors. There is no more pretenses about voter suppression. The republicans won't even allow a fair vote on their own convention floor.
Though after watching the non-event live tonight I didn't really see any magic.
I am so moved ... I'm now bookmarked to the Presidential Race gambling sites... this'll be easy money.

Name the stakes, I'm open to almost anything.

SternSkipper -> RE: RNC faces floor fight. (8/28/2012 10:29:55 PM)

Right now, the odds makers, the guys who REALLY know WTF is going on, have Romney at 15/8 pretty long odds for an election outcome. Obama is 2/5 and a +3 point spread. Careful with your money. When Vegas and Great Britain are paying about $1.10 on a win by the longshot for each dollar wagered. You better be REAL FUCKING LUCKY. This ain't football.
I bet about the same odds on Dubbyah in 04 and made $800 profit on a $2k bet. Dubbyah was a mere 1/2 point over what the odds makers predicted.
In 08 I made $300 on a $1,200 bet on Obama. I forget what the point spread was on Obama. But it came in exactly like they set the odds.

The present odds'll get ya $0.40 on the dollar profit betting Obama... but you gotta make the spread

Winterapple -> RE: RNC faces floor fight. (8/29/2012 1:29:58 AM)

How about this, for at least six months the loser has to have a signature line that says
something positive about either Joe Biden
or Paul Ryan. No other signature line is
allowed and it has to be used on every
post that is made during the agreed upon
time frame.
I'm thinking something along the lines
of "Thank God for Joe Biden/ Paul Ryan
as a nation we are blessed to have him

Since this is a second bet I thought it
would be fitting to go with the veeps.

"You know, that VP doesn't stink as bad as I thought. I bet he's quit beating his wife." [8D]

Biden beats his wife ?
How come this is the first I'm hearing of this ?

SternSkipper -> RE: RNC faces floor fight. (8/29/2012 10:02:23 AM)

I'M SHOCKED.
