I don't understand all of it, but it would overturn results of caucus states.

I have no clue why Romney's folks would propose this. They've got a tough enough fight winning the independents as is. He can't afford to alienate his own party members.

It is egregious. Romney will win the nomination, and he'd do better to play hero and insist all delegates are seated.

Another attempt to impose party discipline. One monolithic voice is what this is aimed at.....it's a misstep to be sure,

I don't look at it that way, Paul lost, he needs to get with the program and back the winner like all the other candidates. Or he needs to leave the party and go third party.

I think that Music is right. These floor fights happen all the time on both sides of the isle. When it's all said and done it won't mean a thing. Everyone of those Texas delegates will support Romney/Ryan.

So are you also in agreement that this is an egregious move on the part of the Romney folks ?
Seeing as you agree with Music and all

Try taking the high road, Mitt you might
benefit from it.

But it wouldn't be a real Republican
convention if there wasn't stuff to
scare the hell out of moderates and
the independents. Just add pissing
off the Libertarians and you're set.

If I remember correctly, there was also some behind the scenes stuff going on 4 years ago from the Hillary supporters. Nothing new here.

You remember incorrectly.

There hasn't been a floor fight in either parties national convention since 1980.

In other words you have no idea WTF the RNC is doing anymore an you would prefer the silencing of someone's free speech over facing the embarrassing reality of a party in its death throes.:-D

A party in its death throes. I love it! Next on the agenda: get rid of the blue dogs.

The RNC had to change their own rules several times over the past few weeks, and ESPECIALLY over the past few days, to ensure Ron Paul didn't get any voice whatsoever at the convention. Where conventions used to be where the debates and votes were held to determine who the nominee will be, now they're just media events to coronate the already-selected candidate. In this case, Romney, despite him not having a clear majority of support, at all. Unity must be projected to the masses. Nobody is allowed to know there's any kind of other option.
So Ron Paul was cheated out of a very good chance at defeating Romney and going up against Obama. In head to head polls, Ron Paul slays Obama, whereas Romney loses to Obama. The RNC simply doesn't want to win.
Republican party = Democratic party. They're all owned and run by the same banks and corporations. Obama was chosen for a 2nd term long ago. The RNC is just doing what it must do - ensure they lose to Obama.

For those this comes as a shock to (or who think I'm making it up), I don't really care. The truth is out there, should you care to go look at it.
The true candidate for Liberty nearly made it. Illegal last minute rule changes are the only thing that stopped him.
The commotion today is about the RNC trying to make FURTHER changes to the system so that a Ron Paul type candidate can never again have any chance against the per-determined establishment candidates. The proposal waters down the democratic process even further so that the presidential candidates of the future will always be the 2 chosen by the powers-that-be, and fed to the masses by the bought and paid for media.

Ah. But leaving the party will give Obama an effortless election. Romney will have to be a lot more conciliatory - he needs the Paul votes in November.

Now here you have me. What is the impact of a floor fight? Even if they refuse to vote Romney, it won't derail his nomination - I remember Pete McCloskey getting a single GOP vote in the 1972 convention, and it didn't faze Nixon one bit.

Actually, you DO look at it that way---that's voice for a monolithic party.

Your shock and dismay is going to be incredibly awesome in November when this almost dead party wins the election, and nominates the newest justice(s) to the Supreme Court.

Again, Ron Paul is not nearly as popular as you guys seem to think, yeah there's a few nutters out there, but they're about as numerous as the Nader voters in 08... A statistical blip on the radar. I'm more concerned about Gary Johnson running as an independent.

Here's why I have a problem with what the RNC is doing.
It sets a terrible precedent. What happens in 4 years (or 8 or whatever) if there is no candidate with an unbeatable edge. Does the RNC pick the one that they think is 'acceptable'? This negates all the votes that folks like you and I cast in primaries.
What happens if a moderate has the lead in delegates and the RNC decides he isnt "idealogically pure" enough? Can they pull the same crap and decide another person will represent "The Party" and our votes don't count.

This is a slippery slope toward the kind of politics practiced in garden spots like N Korea, China and the old USSR.
