Lucylastic -> Oh that Rush guy, hes so funny..... (8/30/2012 3:46:58 AM)

And the transcript:

Okay, folks, it’s a moment of truth. We are mere hours away now from Tropical Storm Isaac, which everybody is desperately hoping becomes a hurricane. I can’t believe this. They are desperately hoping that it becomes a hurricane. It’s the Democrats’ wet dream that this thing hit New Orleans. So, you know me. My middle name is Solutions. I have some ideas for the Republicans. How to deal with the tropical storm/hurricane hitting New Orleans.
Rushes Moment of truth

The first thing we do is offer to send 500 bus drivers to New Orleans, paid for by us, to make sure that the buses that were not used by the Democrat mayor during Hurricane Katrina will be used to evacuate people should it become necessary. The second thing that I think the Republicans ought to do is send bags of money instead of sand. Bags full of money to shore up the levees in New Orleans. This would accomplish many things. A, it would show our compassion. B, we could have Romney’s five sons who CNN last night asked, “What’s it like to be rich as sin,” or whatever. They did. Piers Morgan asked Romney’s sons, “What’s it like to be stinking rich?” So we have Romney’s five sons deliver the bags of money to shore up the levees.

Now, this will accomplish much. It will show our compassion, and it will do something else. Once we publicize that we have sent 500 bags of money — well, whatever number of bags, bags filled with money to shore up the levees, what will happen? The poor of New Orleans will storm the levees and steal the bags, thereby putting themselves at risk for the eventual flooding that will happen once they remove the bags of money. And that way the Republicans can get rid of even more Democrats in Louisiana and shore up the state for themselves. How about those two ideas, folks? Am I not thinking or am I thinking?"

Wow. I'd hope that was delivered as sarcasm. I'm stunned that someone - anyone - would joke about something like that.

Lucylastic -> RE: Oh that Rush guy, hes so funny..... (8/30/2012 4:07:11 AM)

I agree !!!!
mark it in your calendar [;)]

Hillwilliam -> RE: Oh that Rush guy, hes so funny..... (8/30/2012 5:31:38 AM)

1. Why would Rush say that they need to "get rid of even more Democrats". In Louisiana, the Republicans already control the State House, the State Senate and the Governor's office. Is he Ignor....err excuse me, unaware of that fact?

2. Why does Rush assume that the poor are all Democrats? Is he falling into that left-wing trap about the Republicans being rich elitists?

servantforuse -> RE: Oh that Rush guy, hes so funny..... (8/30/2012 5:31:49 AM)

Remember New Orleans mayor in 2005, Ray Nagin. 500 busses sat idle at the direction of Nagin instead of using them to evacuate residents in the path of Katrina.

Based on your posting history, you should have written him a Thank You note.

Lucylastic -> RE: Oh that Rush guy, hes so funny..... (8/30/2012 5:46:21 AM)

Nobody is forgetting that Servent, but what does that have to do with Rush being a twatwaffle again?

servantforuse -> RE: Oh that Rush guy, hes so funny..... (8/30/2012 5:52:49 AM)

I'm not an apologist for Rush and seldom listen to him anymore. If Ray Nagin had sent 500 bus drivers 7 years ago, as Rush mentioned, a lot of people that perished might have been saved.

Lucylastic -> RE: Oh that Rush guy, hes so funny..... (8/30/2012 5:58:32 AM)

your powers of deduction are incredible, maybe you should call Nagin and let him know

On Monday, the day of landfall, Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco had turned to FEMA Director Michael Brown with a request for 500 buses. He promised they would come. For reasons that have never been explained, those buses did not begin to arrive at the Superdome until Wednesday evening. By Katrina’s impossible clock, two and a half days was a
lifetime. Waiting, even if because the facts on the ground weren’t clear, was an unconscionable luxury. If ever there was a time to overreact, this was it.

conducted on Jan. 17, 2006, transcript p. 38 (recalling that he proposed 500 buses, and Hurst said, “you might have to double it”). Although Hurst recalled giving a handwritten note with this request to Reggie Jones, a DOT representative stai ng the ESF-1 desk at the NRCC during Katrina, the DOT has not produced the note in response to the Committee’s document requests. Hurst’s request made its way into a DOT document published at 3p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, which reported that “coordination is underway… with the DOT national transportation contractor for possible provision of buses.” U.S. Department of Transportation, Hurricane Katrina – Situation Report #4, Aug. 27, 2005, 3 p.m., p. 4. Rush needs airplay to survive. All of his supporters are listening to the RNC. He needs to do extra to get listened to.
