Do make the effort to read the forums and get out into your local community so you can figure out exactly what it is that you want.

Don't expect others to give you all the answers - we don't know you therefore we don't know what it is, specifically, that you need to know.

DO be more specific in what exactly it is you're asking about.
"How do I be a dom" doesn't count.

DON'T ask questions before making an attempt to learn what your interests are beforehand because frankly you won't know exactly what you need to ask about and you'll end up with open ended general questions that will get you a free ticket to snarkland around here.

DO - try to be a decent person and treat others well
-be honest with those you engage with
-learn how to do things safely

DON'T - be an ass

Really beyond that, there are no rules. You can be whatever type of dom you want to, and have any type of relationship that works for you and your partner. Whatever makes those involved happy without imposing on outsides is a win. You don't have to do specific things to live up to another person's labels.

Do check out the non-fiction on the booklist and buy the books that resonate with you: http://www.collarchat.com/m_1726118/tm.htm

Don't be the sort of person who arrived at this site after reading: http://www.submissivewomensecrets.com/

Don't be one of these guys: The worst Dom you've ever met

Tell me how to be rich and handsome and I'll tell you how to be a Dom.

OsideGirl -> RE: new dom seeking advice (8/30/2012 9:09:38 AM)

Learn the difference between dominant and domineering.

Men outnumber women at least 10:1. You have a lot of competition for her attention. Pay attention to how you present yourself and your attitude towards submissives.

DO learn honor, duty, and responsibility.

DON'T be lame.

Kana -> RE: new dom seeking advice (8/30/2012 8:37:56 PM)

Seriously, other than "Be yourself," the best advice I can give is:
1-Be firm, but be fair
2-Be consistent. This is probably the most important thing in the lot.
3-Never be shy to reward good behavior
