Yachtie -> RNC and Paul (8/31/2012 6:29:43 AM)

The tribute to Ron Paul (bottom of article) played at the RNC convention, when juxtaposed against the convention itself and what is said in the tribute -

Statements like unwavering, principled, etc. Rand said lobbyists do not stop by Ron's office because he cannot be bought. Congressman Amash said we'd not have this debt burden if there were 435 Ron Pauls in congress -

Why is he not the nominee?

The GOP must have thought this video could placate Paul supporters enough to get their vote. Plenty of Republican officials expressed certainty that the Texas congressman will leave the convention fully endorsing the Romney/Ryan ticket. Despite Paul telling Fox’s Neil Cavuto that he has “no plans” to endorse, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said she is certain he will hop on the bandwagon.

The RNC just does not understand the Paulites.

They walked out, and will likely continue to walk out, because the difference between Paul’s following and the GOP’s rank-and-file “Ew, it’s Romney, but we must support him” types is that the former truly believe in consistency and principles, and are wholly interested in maintaining it, while the latter seem blind in their belief that this Romney/Ryan ticket will somehow “save” the country while shutting out the the voices of actual change.

The answer to the first question "Why is he not the nominee?" was stated right above it.

Because he can't be bought. That scares the hell out of the RNC and the ones who control the purse strings.

"The RNC just does not understand the Paulites."

What they do not understand, they must disenfranchise and try to destroy.

DarkSteven -> RE: RNC and Paul (8/31/2012 6:40:51 AM)

I agree. To have a tribute to Ron Paul instead of have the genuine article address the convention, is just plain weird.

Romney is mishandling this very badly. He needs every vote he can get in November. If the Paulites see Romney as the enemy, they'll have no hesitation pulling the level for Johnson.

I am gobsmacked at how poorly Romney's handled this. All he needed to do was sit down with Paul and work out what it would take for Paul to feel like he was being adequately represented in the GOP platform, and evidently Mitt wasn't capable of it.

Not possible and I think Romney knows that. Paul certainly does. Romney is a bankster neo-con. Paul is anything but. Which is why I find the tribute so odd.

Musicmystery -> RE: RNC and Paul (8/31/2012 7:04:49 AM)

Romney wanted control of Paul's message. Paul refused. Of course, as we've seen especially from Christi, Romney isn't much in control of anything.

But the problems Romney would have faced by an unvarnished Paul speech would pale to the problems Romney's creating for himself with the whitewash and the suppression of delegates.

Then they're crazy.

From Paul's POV, there's not that much difference between Romney and Obama. Paul has three choices:

1. Endorse Romney. Makes no sense whatsoever. He'll infuriate his base, which will accuse him of selling out. So far, Romney's given him no reason to endorse.

2. Continue to sit on the sidelines and not endorse Romney nor anyone else.

3. Endorse Gary Johnson.

Option #3 has to be looking better all the time to him. If he does and Romney gets defeated, Paul will have sent a message to the GOP about taking him for granted. The RNC has refused to seat his delegates and changed their own rules to squeeze him out. Were I him, I'd endorse Johnson.

I'd do it during the DNC to distract from the Dems' monopoly on the airwaves then.

Hes not the nominee because he cant win. Gosh that was difficult to think of.

Says who?

I'm not a "Paulite" but I think a lot of his marginalization came from his own party.

They saw someone that they couldn't control and that is anathema to the leadership of any major party.

I don't think he was marginalized because he couldn't win. He was marginalized because he is honest and not for sale.

They say that POTUS is the most powerful man (or woman) in the world. I disagree. The one who controls the party by controlling the purse strings is that person and it's just as applicable whether you're talking about George Soros or the Koch Brothers.

Compare a Ron Paul supporter and any other candidate's supporter and you'll usually see a huge difference. And, when you pit the typical "Paulite" with the typical Republican nominee supporter, it's almost a huge as when the Paulite goes up against a typical Democrat supporter. More informed and just as loyal, if not moreso.

subrob1967 -> RE: RNC and Paul (8/31/2012 12:16:16 PM)

It could have been his isolationist policies, it could have been the total mess he would have made of the economy and government, and it could be that the GOP is smart enough to know that once Obama started his campaign and shown everyone how much Paul planned to gut their precious social programs, Obama would win in a landslide.

Take your pick, Paul is the wrong man to lead this party into a winner... I know it, you know it, and the majority of American's know it... Now if Paul was so smart, how come he doesn't know it?

Winner of what exactly? Put another way, what shall be won with Romney?

Because he's unwavering, principled, can't be bought, and he would solve the debt problems.

Maybe a couple more years of America as a semi decent place to live, and slow down of the government destroying the country. WTF do you think Paul could accomplish with BOTH majority parties in charge of Congress unwilling to work with Paul?

The last good hope this country has lies with the members of the Tea Party caucus. Romney's show he can be influenced by their decisions... Paul is an uncompromising know it all who is convinced ONLY his ideas are the right ones.

A Paul Presidency would end in an impeachment, and a nation in turmoil.

mnottertail -> RE: RNC and Paul (8/31/2012 2:57:42 PM)

That is a hopelessly fruitless hope, the baggers, we have seen the bills they are putting out down there, and they couldn't get a fuckin dog to play with those bills if they tied a goddamn porkchop on em.

The question was Winner of what exactly? Put another way, what shall be won with Romney?

You answered about Paul. Didn't ask about him.

"Why is he not the nominee? "

Because he didn't get the votes.

Because the American public is fearful of his policies.

Because the American public wants a new keg (because they're not finished drinking).

Because the American public wants someone else to pay their bills.

Same reason Perot didn't get put in office.

mnottertail -> RE: RNC and Paul (8/31/2012 4:22:43 PM)

Now why won't you answer the questions I asked?

mnottertail -> RE: RNC and Paul (8/31/2012 4:34:52 PM)

Willard, teabaggers, Paul (20+ years ago) et al, will not even make it to the footnotes, and there is no question about that.

The "didn't ask about him" referred to me asking about Romney, not Paul. But you answered as to Paul.
