Some of the children complained. In this case in Newcastle Australia, the poor kids who worked up the courage to complain to the principal (who was another pedo priest) got punished for daring to make such allegations. No one knows how many times reaction like this - designed to punish and silence the victims - occurred. "In 2010, the District Court judge Helen Syme described the living hell of abuse and sadism faced by St Pius X students. On Thursday last week the former St Pius X principal, Father Tom Brennan, 74, became the first Australian Catholic priest to be charged with concealing the alleged sex crimes of another priest. He has also been charged with assaulting two boys by caning them when they complained of being allegedly sexually assaulted by teacher John Sidney Denham. Mr Denham, now 70, was a Catholic priest and teacher at the school from 1975. He currently faces charges over 10 counts of alleged sexual assault. Father Brennan also faces eight counts of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old boy at Corpus Christi church in the Newcastle suburb of Waratah in 1984 and 1985. There have been 11 deaths by suicide or drug overdose of men who had been students at St Pius X, the most recent being a 45-year-old father of two who took his own life on July 22. I do believe the clergy had suspicions and ignored or hid them and I believe that individual congregations find it hard to believe that their priest was involved in child abuse. I also think many believed these men, recounting history years ago, were only saying they were abused for the money. This false trust is not limited to the Catholic Church…other organizations outside the church that have close associations with children have the same problem. That said I don’t believe parents do not believe their children when it comes to sexual abuse…at least not today. There was a time before all the revelations when this may have been true but times have changed and parents are more aware. Butch

Maybe not today Butch, but back in the 70`s it was different. the word of a Priest, or Vicar would invariably be taken as Gospel (No pun intended) A child would be accussed of imagining things. How else do you explain all the abuse allegations breaking out from the 80s onwards.
