So as the election season officially gets rolling, the tourists are flocking to our little pit of politics and religion.  Welcome!

Something I'm noticing though is that some of our new posters down here are on brand spanking new accounts, yet are obviously forum regulars, with an excellent understanding of the forum features.

Would any of you care to offer your reasoning?

Ive noticed that as well Rich.

Check the posting styles of the "brand noobs" and compare them to the styles of the regulars missing in action and it's amazing the correlation you obtain.

Actually, Hillwilliam, I'm thinking they aren't so much P&R players looking for a fresh start, but regulars from other parts of the board who would typically have something rude to say about even venturing down into our basement, and don't want to be seen doing it.

It's like people wearing hats and dark glasses to go into a porno store, only here it strikes me funny as hell that the perverts are trying to hide their conventional interests.

I like the visual LOL

Around here it's the preachers that, when they find out you're going to the liquor store next town over, hand you some money and a shopping list.

Do feel free to report profiles that you believe are members avoiding a moderation. Why hypothesize when you can mod nuke them?

Always report what you believe is an alternate account of someone that is avoiding moderation.

Only a very, very small percentage of those reported actually are an alternate account, so this is often one of those misconceptions many users have. Since we cannot comment on specific accounts due to privacy, most users will continue acting as if someone is a sock.

Ya know. . . from the title I thought that this was really bout socks. I have LOTS of seasonal socks. I could not think of any for Labor Day though.

Reasoning. . . they have WAY too much time on their hands. I have enough trouble keeping up with my one account.

Exactly who is "our"?

I don't post in here enough to answer your question, but I can add that I've never created a sock account to post here.

Termyn8or posted with his sock Tumbleweed account. Although his sock's posts were removed, the profile still remains. Go figure.

I cannot speak about a specific account.

Alternate accounts are not against the rules. Often users, because they do not actually have factual information will pass along incorrect information, as their perceptions of the situation is limited.

Posts that are pulled are often due to a direct violation of the rules.

Alternate accounts that are created to avoid moderation often have all of their posts pulled.

The search feature will show that the account you are speaking of has many posts left and were not all pulled.

I am a sock... though now this thread is in "Off Topic".
Just ask littlewonder, this is a fucking sock account, I have no thoughts of my own.
nada, none, zip... it is a nihilistic snowstorm inside of my little sock monkey head.

I think I poked my head in Pol&Rel once,
I wasn't impressed, when I looked it was
mainly trolling & hate spam, mudslinging
and ignorant knee-jerking so I haven't
been in there since.

Now theres socks... Some people are just
sad.

But anyway kudos to the posters that can
somehow tolerate it down there in the
Basement.

That's 'cause I looked up "tumbleweed" and he's using "tumblweed".

But now that I know "alternate accounts" are okay, I think I'll make up one or two. It could be fun! :D

Depends on what you make them for. If it is to cause issues in the forums, then that is addressed. If it is for various other non-problematic reasons, then no problem and have fun.

Thanks,

I think it happens every now and
then all the time but the election or
a hot topic amps it up. I think some
people don't want anything political
or controversial attached to their nic
or board identity. P&R has such a bad
reputation. And those of us who
regularly post there are just in general
mad, bad and dangerous to know.

It's amusing how many people feel
the need to go on record to say they
never visit much less post in P&R.
Which is fine by me and I
imagine others to. Can't take the
heat stay out of the kitchen.
Just not your thing? That's cool.
But I think people who don't post
there see it as harsher than those
that do.

Maybe we should all have dual accounts
with full disclosure. One nic is always
nice, polite , chipper and passes out
hugs and praise. The other doesn't
sugar coat and is cranky, bitchy,
sharp tongued and all snark.
Angel nic and Devil nic. Because when
it comes down to it we're all a mixture
of good and evil, saint and sinner
whether we cop to it or not.

Yeah, that happens.  I had a new guy come in once, accuse me of making up a fact I referenced, tell me I watched too much Fox News (it would be tough, since I mostly don't watch any), and then he was never seen again after I welcomed him and politely provided him with a New York Times editorial praising what he'd said I made up.

DeviantlyD, "our" made a bit more sense before this thread was relocated.  There are a small number of people who seem to mostly like the mix of personalities down there, and enjoy the stream of the conversation.  It doesn't belong to us, but we are the ones who make the most use of it.  Last election, the place boomed for two months, and it seems we are about to see it again.  It's not a bad thing.

Winter...
It's not harsher it's more ignorant.

Like when a global warming debate gets right
down into the stupidity dregs and people start
saying that the polar ice caps on venus are
shrinking to so it's nothing to do with burning
fossil fuels.
Or when a evolution "discussion" has people
saying the devil created the fosil record or
carbon dating/ geology is wrong.
And yet the church is quite happy to let
archaeologists use carbon dating to identify
finds from sites like westminster abbey...

It's seriously not worth my time.
