Tick tock

How appropriate[:-] Or is this irony at it's finest?

Restyles -> RE: And on the first day of the DNC the debt hits 16 TRILLION (9/4/2012 2:39:09 PM)

It will be interesting to see how much play that gets in the NBC coverage.

mnottertail -> RE: And on the first day of the DNC the debt hits 16 TRILLION (9/4/2012 3:06:03 PM)

Yeah, I am loving this, now the republicans are in the spotlight, the republican house raising the debt ceiling and presiding over and authoring the highest debt in the nations history.

LMAO. You have an odd view of history, given it was the GOP that fought to not raise it and was blamed for the credit downgrade as a result. And if I had the time to research it I'd wager I could find a post where you praise the Dems for getting it done, despite your hero's prior proclamation that raising it would be unpatriotic and irresponsible.

The sequestration bargain was a deal with the devil that will bring either him or the country down.

Musicmystery -> RE: And on the first day of the DNC the debt hits 16 TRILLION (9/4/2012 3:21:08 PM)

And yet, they voted just this year to INCREASE the President's request to buy the military stuff it doesn't want.

Those wascly fiscal conservatives.

Well it was your heros the ratpoison republicans that did the political grandstanding, and raised it in an irresponsible and unpatriotic manner.

Yeah, sequestration isn't looking very good for them, is it?   They weren't thinking when they did that, heading into elections.

Inept.  Useless. no fiscal responsibility.  Borrow and spend.,

but they were the most obstructionist Congress evah... Make up our minds already, jeez Louise.

mnottertail -> RE: And on the first day of the DNC the debt hits 16 TRILLION (9/4/2012 4:22:32 PM)

I would say that borrow and spend is obstructionist in the grand scheme of things, I guess.

But I never called the teabaggers down there in the house obstructionist, I called them wholly inept borrow and spenders.

So, the act of attrributing positions to people that they clearly don't hold is called dishonesty.,

Stupidity at its finest when you consider the cause....... Clue = Bush

Dont just take my word, do some research on it.

Odd how a errrr.............."Newcomer" claims to recall what people have said in the past.

As for the GOP being blamed for the downgrade, I posted the quote from S & P in another thread saying exactly that.

DaddySatyr -> RE: And on the first day of the DNC the debt hits 16 TRILLION (9/4/2012 4:44:44 PM)

Bush raised the debt 4 trillion dollars in 8 years (while fighting one necessary and one un-necessary war) and Ofailure has raised it 6-7 trillion in four years?

Well, that certainly is a change. If he shut down the government today until inauguration day, I don't think he could keep his promise of cutting the deficit in half. Ooops.

Apparently, if Bush had raised it by another 2-3 Trillion in his first term, he would have been a patriot? I'm confuzzled.

4 Trillion in debt is unpatriotic

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Bush's wars never showed up on his budgets, so not on the deficit either. One of the first things Obama did when he went into office was put the wars 'on book', which accounted for the huge increase in the deficit in Jan. '09. Learn some history.

They never do Erie, its fingers in the ears, no to factcheckers and "lets blame Obama."

http://articles.businessinsider.com/2011-07-11/news/30013193_1_budget-deficit-government-spending-tax-collections

Its patently clear from any financial report you read, increasing military spending and cutting taxes (As Romney plans) will only exacerbate the problem.

FMRFGOPGAL -> RE: And on the first day of the DNC the debt hits 16 TRILLION (9/4/2012 5:16:40 PM)

Under the official debt clock at the Republican Convention there was a HUGE sign that said "We Built It". Looked like they were counting it as a crowning achievement.

cloudboy -> RE: And on the first day of the DNC the debt hits 16 TRILLION (9/4/2012 5:37:35 PM)

I would love to see deficit reduction, and to achieve it you need to (1) raise taxes; (2) cut entitlements (medicare) and military spending. (Clinton raised taxes and cut military spending -- he was vilified by Republicans and they forecast that his policies would ruin the US economy.)

How is this going to get done?

Down the road, I'm not sure when, the US will probably just print the money to pay it off or down, creating high inflation while deflating everyone's net worth.

Under Obama, you had two choices: (1) Cut government spending and send the economy off a cliff or (2) Increase the debt, stabilize the economy and deal with the debt later.

As I understand it, there was no option (3) on the table.

Next, there is hard economic evidence that austerity increases public debt and unemployment.

So the question is, what solution do you recommend?

Politesub53 -> RE: And on the first day of the DNC the debt hits 16 TRILLION (9/4/2012 5:53:06 PM)

Cloudboy nails the truth of it. The next President will have to do exactly as Cloudboy points out.

I have posted before about the UK economy, cutting Govt spending isnt exactly working, even the Conservatives know they cant slash taxes. Romney/Ryan probably know this too and are taking the electorate for fools.

That wouldn't be convenient.

Psst Polite, Bush added 6.1T in 8 years, including two wars. Obama has added 5T in four years... do the math, my friend.

What is your solution?

What policy during the last four years would have worked better?
