The reptile vet who worked with us often told us about some of the horrendous injuries he had seen on snakes (especially ball pythons who are particularly vulnerable because they are more docile and curl into a ball when intimidated) brought to him that had been attacked by rats. A large rat can take a snake out, especially if left in the tank when the snake isn't hungry.

About the video sent by the dusky, It was a lovely story and one touched my heart. Its not so much about the dog being rescued as seeing such acts of kindness from individuals. Sometimes I feel like the worlds just one big fucked up place but then I see films like that and know that theres still a lot of people out there who care.

Maria, we do not know Goliath's early history. We have made several attempts to get him to eat frozen food. We don't know why he won't. One theory is that because he lives in a high school biology classroom, and feeding time is a class event, the constant heat signatures around him have desensitized his strike desire. He needs that motion of live prey to trigger a strike. The rat he had last night, a Silky, or African Short Haired Rat, was just a small hopper. He lasted less than 90 seconds. Goliath was VERY hungry. Back to the OP......I showed this to my little girl last night, and she wanted to bring the dog home right away.

And regarding hunting for food...they've killed every blessed thing over there!! Here, a couple deer and you've got food for the winter. Michigan is a big outdoors state, and while going after big bucks is a thing, the meat and hides don't go to waste. Hunters and fishers are the backbone of the DNR. Dusky, I think the spiritual elite has stood down...
