Could he ... Could he have possibly ... possibly repeated ... repeated himself ... repeated himself more ... repeated himself more than he ... than he did?

Actually, I believe the teleprompter might have been getting hung up.

Two things struck me:

1) Through most of the speech, in public, the president was "Barack"

2) At the end of the speech, "God bless you. God bless the troops. God bless you all". Are we to infer that he has also attended a reverend Wright sermon or three? Traditionally, national candidates say "God bless America" and I get it, if people are atheist/agnostic, they should just say something because it's de rigeur but, it almost seemed like he went out of his way to NOT bless America. That kind of stuck in my craw.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I hope you didn't lose any sleep over it, Michael

Joe Biden has given dedicated and effective service to the Nation for decades and you nit pick at him. Is that all you got? Pathetic.

I look forward to hearing you speak publicly some day. Apart from that is there a point to this?

Or is this just a "declaration" thread?

I speak, publicly, for a living and I used to make my living writing. It wasn't so much a slam on Biden as an over-all mention of the teleprompter and, maybe even the speech writing.

Do I believe that Biden is a powerful public speaker? No. I don't think he's illiterate, either. Unfortunately, based upon either his delivery, the teleprompter, or poor speech writing, these are the things I took away from the speech.

vincentML,

I will admit to being a bit pedantic; almost to the point of anal-retentive but I object to being called pathetic.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

A bit of historical perspective on "God bless America":

quote:

Consider this reality: The omnipresence of "God bless America" as a political slogan is an entirely recent phenomenon. We know because we've run the numbers. Analysis of more than 15,000 public communications by political leaders from Franklin Roosevelt's election in 1932 — the beginning of the modern presidency — through six years of George W. Bush's administration revealed that prior to Ronald Reagan taking office in 1981, the phrase had passed a modern president's lips only once in a major address: Richard Nixon used it to conclude an April 30, 1973, speech about Watergate.

But Reagan brought "God bless America" into the mainstream by regularly using it to conclude his speeches. Since then, presidents and other politicians have used it nearly to death. Like Nike's "Just Do It" or any other ubiquitous catchphrase, the words eventually lose their meaning. "God bless America" has become the Pennsylvania Avenue equivalent to consumerized Madison Avenue staples.

Of course you fail to mention what you brought to the speech.
You brought a distinct distaste for this administration
You brought an acute hope that Romney/Ryan ticket winds up on top
You brought,as evidenced by your tag line,a desire and yearning to see god injected into the sphere of politics.
Not exactly an unbiased commentary....now there is nothing wrong with that, certainly I bring my bias to the table, firm his,Heretic his....so on and so forth.
Just felt like pointing this out as a public service just in case we get visitors here who need the disclaimer....lol

Okay. I just re-read it a few times and I got it.

I haven't written, professionally in a few years. While some of my work may indeed still be on the internet (and microfish, in a library), there are no pearls I'll cast on this thread or this forum.

I have found some people here to be vindictive and childish/mean with some of the comments they tried to post on the youtube link I did share.

Thank your fellow lefties for my new-found refusal to share my work, here.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

One of our better known Republican* presidents routinely failed to end his speeches with "God bless America."

Despite that, this one is considered a decent bit of oratory.

This one too.

* Whether he'd be a Republican today is an interesting question, but that's another thread.

I'm sorry 1)you have no business using phrasing like you are. My questuions have been legitimate and politely delivered.

2)As a political analyst I would recommend you gert yourself a blog going so you don't lose your edge. I writer who doesn't write regularly pays a price.

One of the greatest conserrvative writers alive was here on campus as a guest speaker of my Dept last spring. He told me "I force myself to turn out something each week so as not to lose my edge. When it's this bad, I write about baseball".

While I appreciate your concern, I write at least once a week. Writers write.

The reasons for which I'm not willing to share my work, here, anymore have been previously addressed.

I never said that you had been rude, at all. Please re-read what I wrote. I mentioned your fellow lefties. Or, do you deny being a progressive/democrat/liberal/lefty/take your pick? I guess, if you consider "lefty" to be pejorative, I can understand but, I meant no insult to you.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

No charge for the professional advice.

I am a liberal in a very classic sense of the word and have honed my ideology over 4 years at one of the best political science programs available. Your use of "lefty, leftist, socialist, and liberal" reflects an ignorance of the specific ideologies. It would be the same if I lumped your neo-con approach to the political discourse with the actual conservatives I see evidenced here (2), along with say fringe racist elements of the so-called Tea Party "Patriots", with a dash of gun nut.
Why do it to me, when I haven't to you?

Did I type "socialist" to you? I must have missed that.

I "lumped you in" with other liberals, democrats, progressives, lefties, and I offered a "take your pick" option. All of those description surely are on the left side of the political spectrum? I never included the word "socialist" and I'd appreciate it if you would cease to put words into my fingertips, in the future.

Surely, I can make an observation based upon what I've observed in your posts, here? Was my observation incorrect? Do you not fall somewhere left of center on the political spectrum? Do you see "lefty" as an insult? As I already said: I meant no insult by my use of that word. I'll not apologize a third time.

As far as equating me with with the tea partiers? I'm flattered. Neo-con? Hardly. I knocked on doors for President Reagan's first campaign (I was too young to actually vote). So, there's no "neo" in me.

The last one? "Racist"? If you took the time to know anything about me, you'd know that does not even pass the giggle test.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Should we search your pattern of use?

As I IMPLIED in my response, IF I pulled the name-game you're playing, it would would upset you. "IF" you know what "if" means right?

Get off your high horse and simply try being polite.

Anyway, you made my point for me and boy friend is home from practice and after tonight it's hands off till after the game. So I'm checking out.

I was looking for a corresponding Romney/Romney side by side...but the guy changes his views so often, jumping from position to diametrically opposed position that the exercise failed
