Missouri candidate for U.S. Senate Rep. Todd Akin (R)’s campaign coffers may have begun to feel the consequences of getting frozen out of his party’s fundraising. Talking Points Memo is reporting that TV and radio stations are dropping Akin’s ads because the campaign has failed to pay its bills.

According to St. Louis CBS affiliate KMOX, the Republican congressman’s TV ad buy at the local NBC station was dropped when Akin made half of a payment for a series of spots, but failed to make a second payment. “The station says its confirmed that other stations from St. Louis to Kansas City have been put in the same position,” said an article on KMOX’s website.

Akin became notorious after remarks he made in an interview regarding rape and pregnancy went viral. The congressman assured KTVI Fox 2′s Charles Jaco that rape and incest exemptions aren’t necessary in anti-abortion legislation because in cases of “legitimate rape,” a woman’s body can somehow shut down conception. Republican Party officials rushed to condemn Akin’s statements, in spite of the fact that the fallacious notion is part of established Republican policy.

Akin broke with his party when he was asked to drop out of the race. Party chairman Reince Priebus has said of the Republican National Committee, “We’re not going to send him a penny.”

Akin has been championed by evangelical christians within the GOP, including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. He saw a brief uptick in online donations in August, but apparently, that money has been spent.

The embattled congressman is running against incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill, whose seat could make the difference between a Democratic or a Republican majority in the Senate.

A spokesman for the campaign told KMOX that the missed payments were due to a “scheduling error,” and that “the final portion of their payments is coming in the mail, so to speak.”

I'll have to remember that one the next time I get a collection call.

This is the guy who is planning on helping to balance the budget right?

The wooshing is the sound Republican contributers  dumping his ass.
He probably is so low on funds at this point he's deciding between the canvassers and the phone bank. after that it's BYO Donuts at Akin Headquarters.

Who cares ? This guy has been on his own since he said what he said. No one from either party wants anything to do with him.

huckabee still loves him.

That's OK, when the election is over, he'll fold his tent and leave a few hundred thousand to a half million dollars in unpaid bills that are owed mostly to small businessmen. You know, the people that the GOP says theyre trying to protect.

I don't feel for him at all. I feel for his workers and the suppliers of goods and services that a campaign runs on that won't get paid.

Apparently you do enough to disown him. Come on! Where's that no pachyderm left behind spirit?

I guess with the dead cat bounce that Willard did, they are saving all their money from the fringes, and packing it into Willards campaign.

Perhaps they GOP attended the Obama school of politics, Akin must have missed the wheels of the bus he was thrown under.

Bill, I don't think this is a good time to bringing up the small business owners getting screwed by politicians.

So it's your contention that Obama and his staffers were responsible for the convention and all it's arrangements? If so, then you would be as wrong as the vendors ALLEGEDLY upset with Obama. The Democratic National Committee is not run or managed by the nominee. Blogs are not news. Blogs are RARELY objective. This one here though? I'd rather read the account of a pool cleaner.

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/senate-races/248153-akins-ads-pulled-for-lack-of-funds-while-mccaskill-launches-new-ad

...And as stations pull Akin's ads, McCaskill is going up on the airwaves with a new ad touting her moderate bona fides. In "Fifty," she showcases her position in National Journal's ideology ranking, which puts her at 50 on a spectrum of most liberal to most conservative.

"How did I get there? Missouri-style independence," she says, speaking directly to the camera.

McCaskill still needs to make a case that she's a centrist to cement a win in right-leaning Missouri. She led in almost every poll taken after Akin's comments went viral, once by double-digits, with the most recent independent poll giving her a 9-percentage-point lead over Akin.

But prior to his comments, she was widely considered one of the most vulnerable incumbents in the nation, and Republicans believed Missouri would be an easy win on their road to retaking the Senate majority.

While that's certainly no longer true, widespread dissatisfaction with McCaskill in the state still persists, and she'll have to reach out to moderate voters to ensure she keeps her seat in November.

Because I saw this coming 8 years ago and prepared by moving my investments around and refinancing some things............ yes.
You have to realize though that I'm a real estate broker and have been for about 15 years. About 8 years ago when banks started writing 107% mortgages for people without the credit to buy a happy meal, I saw a crash coming. I flipped a few small properties and then got out. I got some gold before the Paulites ran it thru the roof and sold it at 1800 last spring. The market has about doubled in 3.5 years. Ive added about 50K to the combined equity in my house and office building.
I'm not buying $700 flyrods like I was 10 years ago but I hunkered down and I've weathered it fairly well.
When you see a storm coming is time to roll up the windows and get out the rain gear. Unfortunately, a lot of folks put on their swimsuits and headed for the beach.

How ironic is it that they're selling puppets of a puppet? LOL

Rob, thank you for another belly laugh.

Peace and comfort,

It's curious that the Radicals would dump Akin since he A) represents their fanatical mindset so well, and B) they are trying their damnedest to sweep the Senate. Giving up one of their prospects, whatever the odds, without a fight just doesn't seem like their style. I doubt its a matter of money, and we've seen they are still pandering to their base (where Akin would fit right in), so it does beg the question.
