On this anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, I find myself pondering the wisdom of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who spoke at the Washington National Cathedral on the first anniversary of that grim day.

‎"We are bound to one another. We can be human only together. We can be free only together. We can be safe only together. We can be prosperous only together."

May my colleagues Ann and Joe, my childhood friend Brian, and all who perished in the attacks rest in peace. And may healing come to those who mourn.

One of my sharpest memories of that horrible day was the que of firefighters, police and EMTs...... walking INTO the burning building, as thousands of folks were streaming out.

RIP, heroes.

On Facebook, I follow the 9/11 Memorial and they posted this from their mission statement, which I really like:

"May the lives remembered, the deeds recognized, and the spirit reawakened be eternal beacons, which reaffirm respect for life, strengthen our resolve to preserve freedom, and inspire an end to hatred, ignorance and intolerance."

I know today I will remember the first responders who showed immense courage, setting side their own personal safety to help their fellow Americans and also positive, healing thoughts for those who are still grieving for loved ones lost and are battling health issues following this tragedy.
