Termyn8or -> RE: slavery, Why not? (6/12/2006 12:57:49 PM)

Actually I don't think it is illegal. While it is illegal to enslave someone against their will, it is also illegal to restrain or imprison them, or to have sex with them or flog them when it is not consensual. I think I could write a slave contract that might have a chance of standing up legally, albiet a slim chance. It is not much more than an employment contract, they tell you what to do, and in alot of cases what to wear, sometimes in general guidelines, sometimes a uniform. One of the major problems is that you can't contract for sexual services, but if there is consideration on both sides of the deal, it MIGHT fly. Your dress code and chores are spelled out, along with must follow orders, then there must be something Master does for you. It may be simple financial support, it could even include Him managing your money. That does not mean He can just go out and spend it all as if it were His anymore than a stockbroker or fund manager. Certain things can be made to hold up. So your uniform includes a leather and steel corset and collar. One of those chores might be licking boots. All legal as far as I can tell. Sex can't be part of the issue, but then Monica and Bill didn't have that in the job description either. You can't contract to do anything illegal or it'll be thrown out, and that includes sex because it becomes prostitution, but D/s is not specifically about sex. If everything in the contract is legal, the contract is legal. For example a football player has quite an extensive contract outlining his acceptable actions 24/7, and they order him to go out on the field risking his safety. He wears protective equipment on the field because he is in a way, property, or to put it more nicely, an asset. US citizens can contract damnear anything. Now if you are talking about making it into a legal status, see the Gay marriage thread. They are crazy to want the gov involved in their lives IMO. Some simple changes in the law would make it alot more fair to them without shoving a license down their throat. I think it would be better to work on the contract thing. It would be like a combination lease/employment contract. Even if it didn't hold up in court, it would be kind cool. T
