Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Care2.com

On September 11th 2001, first responders raced into contaminated rubble and toxic air to mount a truly heroic rescue effort. More than a decade later, those 9/11 first responders are still facing the devastating health effects of those rescue efforts.

First responders facing cancer and respiratory disease are still waiting for the federal victim compensation funds meant to assist them with massive treatment costs.

Congress has promised to aid 9/11 cancer patients, and it's all our responsibility to make sure they keep that promise. As it stands now--the victim compensation fund is stretched too thin to help all those who need it.

Often too sick to work, many first responders struggle to pay copays for cancer treatments. Money has not been added to the budget to cover cancer cases, many of which will appear long past the 2016 compensation deadline.

Urge Congress to make good on their promise to ensure all 9/11 first responders can afford the treatment they need.

More levity Rob ? Keep the one liners coming bro.

Kalik, having worked on more demolition sites than I care to remember, and watched my father die of an asbestos related lung cancer, I wish you well with your petition.

Not only the co-workers, but sadly many of those engulfed in that horrible dust cloud will end up with industrial type diseases, as sure as eggs are eggs.

I just got back from a 9/11 memorial, the way our government has treated those who gave so much for us deeply angers me.

Make sure you place the blame where it should correctly be placed: The GOP.

They milked 9/11 for every slimy excuse in the book. They used it for everything they could think of, but when it came time to do something right, because of the tragedy surrounding 9/11, the GOP basically gave folks the middle finger and told 'em to 'go to hell'.

Curious how another American President didnt try to milk 5/19/95for all it could have been worth. Most people, when you say 9/11/01 or simply 9/11, know what your talking about. But when you say 5/19/95 or making the other date, 5/19, they look at you with a confused expression. Even though both dates are of terrible days for the USA. The two dates, and what followed are as different as night and day.

I'm all in favor of helping those folks get the care they need.

9/11 responders bill defeated by Senate GOP filibuster

Senate Democrats failed Thursday to win a procedural vote to open debate on a bill that would provide medical benefits and compensation for emergency workers who were first on the scene of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The motion for cloture, or to begin debate, needed 60 votes to pass due to a Republican filibuster, but fell short at 57-42 in favor.

While supporters said they would try to bring the bill up again, either on its own or as part of other legislation to be considered, the vote Thursday jeopardized the measure's chances for approval in the final weeks of the current congressional session.

We all know that the GOP sat back and decided to let American heroes die. But where were the Democrats? I think I should have seen them on every tv show that would have them advocating for the first responders....I haven't been whelmed by how hard they've fought for this.
