Like a person. There really isn't any differance on a first date. It's a first date. Find out if you have anything in common. by talking. Esp if you have anything vanilla in common. In my opinion, the play part can be worked out, if the relationship part clicks. I need someone who is my friend first, in a relationship with me that we both take serriously second, the kink comes third. If we got the first two down pat, we are going to be able to work out the third, imo.

I would say ask her if you're not sure. Were I meeting someone, I would want to be treated politely as you would treat anyone, as a person first. Until you are in a dynamic with someone, you are just two regular people meeting for coffee or going on a date. NBMG

Your thread title says "finding a new Owner." This implies that you had an owner prior. (Otherwise, you'd have left out the word "new.") In other words, you know that Dominant women aren't some mystical creatures that one should treat differently or sprinkle some kind of magical fairy dust upon. How did you treat your last owner when you met her?
