Came across an interesting quote in tonight's reading:

"The more I see of very rich men acting singly or in corporations,
the more firmly I feel they are of no advantage to the country."

Anyone know which of our crypto-Marxist, class-warfare-waging, job-killing Presidents said this?

Hint: It wasn't a Democrat.

'Twas Theodore Roosevelt.

It's mind-blowing to think of how the 1912 election--in which TR sought to return to office but lost to Woodrow Wilson--included much discussion on the dangers of concentrated wealth and corporate power. And both Roosevelt and Wilson vied to be seen as the more progressive candidate. (Taft, the incumbent, pretty much gave up and came in third.) Today we seem to be looking to see who can be the most regressive.

For the same reason they run away from the republican who said this:

“Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. … Their number is negligible and they are stupid.”

It isn't your daddy's republican party any more. They've been taken over by that splinter group spoken of above.

Teddy was one of our most colorful and GENUINELY AMERICAN Presidents we've had. While I greatly admire Lincoln for his taking of risks, pragmatism, and heart, I DIG Teddy!

The Republican party kicked Roosevelt out because he wouldn't kowtow to the banksters, robber barons and industrialists of his time (sound familiar?). He then ran on a third party ticket (the bull moose party). This is the only time in American history that a third party candidate has finished as high as second in a presidential election.
