Whom did they put pressure on? Weren't the statements about not denigrating religion--which I think were issued in general terms, not about Islam in particular--made after Innocence of Muslims went viral?

This is one of those times when freedom of Speech can be difficult to face.
One way to address this is to boycott Sony.

True. But the story is a bit more complex than your single sentence and photo make it sound.

Whitmore added that Nakoula, who has denied involvement in the film in a phone call to his Coptic Christian bishop, agreed to the interview prior to the deputies arriving at his home, that the move was "entirely voluntary" and the man was "very cooperative."

. . .

A federal grand jury indictment in February 2009 charged Nakoula in an alleged bank fraud conspiracy. The indictment accused him and others of fraudulently obtaining the identities and Social Security numbers of bank customers at Wells Fargo and withdrawing $860 from bank branches in Cerritos, Artesia and Norwalk.

Nakoula pleaded no contest in 2010 and was ordered to pay more than $790,000 in restitution. He was also sentenced to 21 months in federal prison, but was released early. The terms of his parole included being barred from assuming aliases and using computers or the Internet for five years without approval from his probation officer.

BTW, Cerritos is the town, not the guy.

Sony is the distributor, the executive producers, producers, and director are American. Now since it's their film, should the administration pressure them to withhold the release, and break their contract with Sony?

What do you think, Rob?

I'm not really sure... By they're statements about the other film, you would think they would jump on this toot sweet. But I honestly believe the Obama campaign is really counting on this film giving him a bump before the election.

Do I think they should put pressure on anyone? No. But they already set the precedence.

Going to be hard to give him any help in November since it is being released in December.

They brought him in because he violated probation for his bank fraud convictions.
Free Speech has nothing to do with it.

The dude is a criminal.

And the timing was purely coincidental... Right?

How do you know he violated his parole, how does anyone know he's the one who actually posted the video?

According to the story I read, he was brought in for questioning to see if he had violated his parole for his fraud convictions. One of the terms of his parole was supposed to be not to use the internet for 5 years. If I recall correctly, the parole started in '09 or '10. Thus, if he was the one that posted the trailer online, he violated terms of his parole. I believe I also read they questioned him for hours and then he was released. They may have to get their paperwork done before detaining him and trying him, so he may not be in the clear.

Oh, I'm sure it wasn't.

But I think this sort of after-the-fact (and apparently voluntary) questioning of someone who may have broken his parole is worlds apart from prior restraint of Sony's releasing a film.

If you lived during Prohibition, you probably would have attacked the federal government for arresting & convicting Al Capone for income tax evasion, calling it an unfair interference with a poor, friendly, kindly bootlegger's "rights".

This guy is a convicted felon. The timing of this comes from his possible parole violation. The "timing" was his fault - if he had not posted the video in violation of his parole, he wouldn't be under investigation now.
