A web poll? You're really putting credence in a web poll?

I take a web poll as serious as I take a Gallup, or Rasmussen poll... Or an Obama supporter, or anyone who claims to be a "journalist" these days... IOW not at all.

I do put polls that include the disclaimer Not a Scientific Survey into a different category than those which use accepted polling methodology.

Web polls of this sort are subject to manipulation due to being mentioned on popular blogs, free republic on the right and pharyngula on the left are examples. PZ Myer, the man behind pharyngula, is very up front about manipulating them in order to get across, to his readers at least, that unscientific polls are useless.

The Quote "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

He isnt speaking of 47% of the Democratic party... he is speaking of 47% of the population.

Is there some sort of mental block at work here ?
Why is he having such a problem seeing this ?
It isn't exactly muddled,I mean for once Mitt was being clean and emphatic...and yet subrob can't get this ?

Probably not as much of an effect as Obama's skin colour.

Sad...but I think, having been born and raised here, that I must agree with this.
So very fucking sad.

I've been reading this thread hear and similar ones elsewhere, as well as reading and attempting to determine Romney's intent.

The fact is, he's somewhat right. Those that are already in Obama's Camp are resolute in their support for him; whaever their reason for support. Romney would be wasting time and campaign dollars even adressing them. So in essence, he can't worry about them......at this point. Hopefully if elected he has a plan for them.

I've been voting Libertarian for the past few elections, while their platform isn't spot on, it suits me best. Recently I've been testing the logic and sincerity of those affiliated with both sides of the equation and frankly there is entirely to much us against them going on and a great plenty of you could care less about facts. Neither candidate will sway voters from the other side this time, we are a country divided and that's that.

I won't be wasting my vote this year on principle, and a good many of you and your spin is what is driving my decision. Thanks!

DomYngBlk -> RE: The Romney tape: what effect do you think it will have on the polls? (9/19/2012 4:02:16 PM)

Yeah but the rub is that 47% of Americans don't even vote. Either he is a complete idiot and doesn't know what he is saying or He knows what he is saying and simply thinks 47% of us are irresponsible and without morals. I don't think there can be any other choices.

How do you arrive at this supposed inflexibility of those who support President Obama ?
Is their resoluteness somehow more firm than Romney supporters ?
If so,what do you suggest, causes this inability to adapt to new information or stimuli ?
Is President Obama the only political recipient of such blind obedience from his supporters ?

Yeah, but THAT 47% is not the 47% Romney talked about. Too many 47%'s running around.

slvemike4u -> RE: The Romney tape: what effect do you think it will have on the polls? (9/19/2012 7:11:18 PM)

Yeah, where did they all come from....I have heard rumors that 47% of them are illegals.
Now I have no hard data to support that assertion, but what the fuck nobody else offered data either [:)]

Again, he's clearly talking about 47% of Democrat registered voters.

Tell someone else your worries. I no longer think your nonsense is worth my time.

Sure it is. When someone says "47% of the american people"......I usually imagine he talking about the whole country. So you are helping him explain what he meant?

OK, now we got 47% of registered voters, can someone give me the percentage of eligible that register?

cuz we got now:
.47 * .47 * .31 * .55 * Av *  Kitchen sink  (47% Willards nontaxers, times 47% registered voters, times 31% democrat, times 55% of registered voters who vote in presidential election, times Actual voters, times whatever else we can come up with....

And pretty soon we are talking about Willard meant this one guy in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

The first scientific poll on the matter is out and it doesn't look good for Rmoney.

My wifes check comes from GM, you know the one Willard said should fail and go to bankruptcy, so how does that go into Willard vote column??? You know the one Ryan let fail by not accepting any federal money to save them when he could...

I fail to see how anyone would vote for these two if they work for GM, hell the union killing alone will lose 90% of the vote

That part's true, to some extent. Most loyal Democrats aren't going to be swayed to vote for Romney anymore than most loyal Republicans will vote for Obama (well, other than my mom anyway lol). What's not true is that all of those supporters are lazy lay-abouts that pay no taxes and expect government handouts. That's some pretty serious slander against half of the people of the United States.

Actually, in 2008 and 2004, about 64% of eligible voters voted. (US Census press release) Linked to that census page is pdf that states that 71% of eligible voters were registered in '08, and 89% of them voted.
