quote:
ORIGINAL: farglebargle It the history of how blacks have been stalked and lynched throughout history in the south completely alien to you? Not relevant to this case. quote:
It must be if you don't think that Trayvon Martin was in reasonable fear for his safety after being followed by some potentially drugged up white guy for no legitimate purpose. Trayvon isn't on trial, thus not relevant. quote:
After all, Zimmerman wasn't on patrol at the time, and more importantly, TRAYVON MARTIN WASN'T DOING ANYTHING WRONG. Not relevant. The watch guidelines said to call if you see anything suspicious, even if nothing ends up turning out to be wrong. That's what George did. He had no way of knowing that his attempt to assist Police would end up with his nose being broken and on the ground taking injury while unable to escape from Trayvon. quote:
And of course, when the Jury gets to the "REASONABLE" part of Zimmerman's claims, they're just going to discard them. The only issue where "reasonable" comes up is at the moment the gun was fired. Was there a reasonable belief that force was needed to prevent serious bodily injury at that moment? If the State cannot prove beyond and to the exclusion of all reasonable doubt that there wasn't, George has to be acquitted. Massad Ayoob has done a seminar where he explains that once pinned to the ground, disparity of force comes into play and fists become deadly weapons justifying the use of lethal force in self defense. And he's indicated he may be testifying on George's behalf. He'll be able to explain in an objective capacity why George's belief was reasonable. And as Richard Hornsby put it, Florida was able to find a jury to acquit Casey Anthony, so there should be little trouble to find a jury to acquit someone that is likely innocent.
