ORIGINAL: tazzygirl The agreement opened the door for open trade, ending tariffs on various goods and services, and implementing equality between Canada, USA, and Mexico. NAFTA has allowed agricultural goods such as eggs, corn, and meats to be tariff-free. This allowed corporations to trade freely and import and export various goods on a North American scale. Since the implementation of NAFTA, the countries involved have been able to do the following: When did Canada and Mexico become overseas? I'm not sure Tazzy.....could have been while I wasn't looking...lots of things change over the years....however, I never said that it was about overseas stuff....I said it was called the "North American Trade Agreement"...perhaps you're not clear on the intricacies of such a title, but it would appear to me to refer to those countries that are in (here it comes....wait.....it's almost here...).....North America. You may also recall I stated: "It was his opinion that if Mexico, China, India and others were making as much as we were....they could afford OUR products (much like Ford's opinion to double wages for his employees, realizing that if his own employees couldn't afford his product....there didn't seem to be much logic in producing it....and 6 weeks later he had 35,000 men show up asking for a job)." And indeed, that was his (Clinton's) opinion. Did NAFTA have anything to do with China or India? Not as far as I or any other reasonable person who reads and educates themselves on the facts can tell....however, that was his argument....that when the world can afford to purchase our products, our exports will rise. Indeed they have, and Clinton was correct...it was, for all practical purposes a genius move. It also increased substantially, our imports, far in excess of what our exports by virtue, became.
