When speech is free, Lucy, nobody gets to corner the market on hyperbole and wretched excess, and nobody gets to be the sole arbiter of how those terms, or "hate speech," are defined.

Oddly enough, It is cheaper for me to call friends in Arkansas and Texas, even on their mobiles, than to phone my brothers mobile who lives 3 miles away.

Well maybe if you didn't live in a country that didn't prop up a so called "royal" family by over taxing the monarch's subjects, maybe it wouldn't be...

Maybe you are talking out of your arse as per usual. They cost to the UK of the Royal family is trivial. The cost of the phone calls goes back to the phone providers not the Queen.

There is also the crucial philosophical difference betwen the US, and the countries of the Crown, Lucy. In my country, the rights of the people are considered to be inherent, and of divine/natural origin, and our government is strictly limited about stepping on them. In the countries of those on the thread who seem to have an issue with how it happens here, the rights of the people are doled out by government.

Rich, you forgot one small thing. In countries of the crown, they believe that divine rights only flow to the royalty; you know the fucked-up, in-bred genetic messes that have been marrying and reproducing with their own cousins for centuries.

That gene pool is getting awfully shallow, if you ask a geneticist.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Yes Rich, if you say so...... I cant believe some of you are so stupid to believe this nonsense. The Crown hasnt doled out anything here since before you were a nation.

Now this is the sort of piece that goes very well with Saturday morning coffee.
...

I would say that it's "frigging amazin'" that a thread devoted to free speech is belittled and shat upon by those who claim the mantle of it so often.

Generally, because they do not wish to extend that right to anyone who disagrees with them.

Who are you talking about Firm, because many of your right wing buddies do exactly that. I hope you are not being one sided and giving them a free pass.

For you other, "We have free speech and you dont" Americans....you need to check your laws. There is plenty of stuff you cant say without getting charged with verbal assualt of disorderly conduct.

As for the Constitution....Aint got one, dont need one, protected by common law.

The Internet should be working here at the house by tomorrow night. Why truly free speech is so scary to some is a matter I think will be worth exploring, once I get back to a keyboard bigger than a Zippo lighter.

yourself.
I wasnt hateful, I was just very very dismissive of your nonsense.

If all you're doing is dismissing it, why the fuck did you feel the need to respond at all?

I would think that is obvious....to dismiss of course !!!!!!!

That gene pool is getting awfully shallow, if you ask a geneticist.

If you ask a geneticist, you may learn that inbreeding is too complex to support the use of "inbred" as a derogatory term. Inbreeding, in fact, among other things serves to concentrate traits and raise the prevalence of recessive traits. If a pool contains several good traits, inbreeding will all but universalize them. If a pool contains negative ones, those will also tend to universalize. When using genetic methods to refine digital or electronic processes, inbreeding is an invaluable tool to accomplish the desired level of quality, cutting a number of iterations from the process.

Some products of inbreeding include Einstein and Darwin.

If a culture accepts infanticide or other ways to increase selection pressure, it will benefit greatly from inbreeding. Sparta would be an excellent example, as their combination of a high incidence of inbreeding (e.g. Leonidas and Gorgo were first cousins) and a stringent "quality assurance" process (that involved both infanticide and rearing practices that had a high mortality rate) resulted in what may have been the finest warriors known to mankind at the time. Other accomplishments include high education levels, property rights for women, a strong community, and so forth.

Incidentally, the UK doesn't have the only royal family in Europe.

IWYW,
— Aswad.

Yeppers Rich, you nailed it again. Everyone who thinks there should be any deviation from your view is scared of free speech.

If you really want to discuss this, lets start with all the instances in the US (And I say that as you claim to truly have free speech) Where speech is actually restricted.

This isn't to imply I haven't fell prey to the same impulse, time and again.Just sayin, the royals provide a good deal of entertainment, sell and awful lot of newspapers and such, seems they are,in one way or another, paying their way.
