What a disaster.
Yesterday as I was driving to a golf course I had never played I was using the app I had downloaded the night before,Apple's update replaced Google maps with Apple's own app.so I really had no choice.
So there I am with the radio on and the map showing the way.The local news starts talking about Apple's issues with these maps, seems the Golden Gate bridge does not exist and a city in Norway is located in the ocean.
Well my golf course was cleverly disguised as an elementary school....lol.
Tee time approaching and technology has failed me...time to resort to asking for direction, something I don't do(being a male and all) and when I do do it, I do it badly...people tell me stuff...I get in my car make the first turn they tell me, than forget the rest.
Well I made it to the course(late ) but frustrated beyond belief ...and anyone who has played golf can tell you.,frustration is not conducive to golf.I went thru a sleeve(3) of balls on the first hole before I settled down.
Anyone else dealt with this app and it's glitches ?

No but I've been putting off updating my
iPhone, I just don't do it unless I have to
seeing as last time I did, something gliched
in my iTunes and I ended up with a very
expensive paperweight.
Everything got erased including the OS... [>:]

I use Google Earth for a satellite view before I leave, and dead reckon my way in.

I sure as hell told the phone, "no, I do not want to send read receipts," for incoming texts, though!

I really like the use of vector graphics vs. the old rasterized tiles. The Maps app actually does know where the Golden Gate Bridge is. However, while it can find AT&T Park without a problem, it has no idea where Pac Bell Park (merely an older name, for those who aren't Giants fans) might be. That little failure seems to be reflective of a generally weaker search functionality compared to Google, which might actually turn out to be a bigger problem in the long run than the current rough edges in the map database.

The loss of Google's public transit data is another unfortunate downside. It will be interesting to see what Google will deign to include in their iOS mapping app now…

However, for driving directions, I don't really see much of an issue. The prior app wasn't much use for providing live directions. In iOS, live guidance has previously been the province of third-party apps and the new Maps app probably doesn't really change that situation yet. The interface actually seems to make it a better option in a pinch than the old version, although it seems the database may still benefit from some improvement.
