ORIGINAL: slvemike4u I need some help,I'm wondering if something that most of us who play golf would agree is just pure stupidity is also a rules violation...and if so what penalty is assessed ? Here's the situation,I'm lying to the right of the cart path but on a reasonably good piece of grass.I'm facing a blind second shot to an elevated fairway on a par 5....I take my swing,I cracked it,turned nice on the ball and it comes off my club beautifully ,a line drive that clears the elevation, heading for what has to be the middle of the fairway....and a good distance too. The next sound I hear is a dull thwack,wtf.....I get into my cart drive up the hill and find my ball, not all that much advanced lying in the rough.I ask one of the guys I'm playing with, who happens to be driving the other cart "what was that sound after I hit my ball ?" ,he answers "your ball hit the cart" I ask him what the fuck was the cart doing in the fairway in front of me( as an aside we argued friday about him driving back and forth in front of me trying to find his ball,I told him it was distracting and bullshit...to keep the damm cart behind me,his ball would be in the same place after I hit") He replied he was crossing the fairway to get to the third player of our group, who rides with him in his cart.I asked him why he couldn't wait till after I hit to cross the fairway...and wondered aloud about now having to hit out of the rough for my third shot......he tells me that I have the option of replaying the shot. The only option I wanted at that point was one in which I broke his fucking jaw There has to be some sort of penalty imposed for impeding another players ball, provided you are actually in front of that player,no? If he was in front of your lie, you get a free shot from where it landed (not a natural impediment). If he was behind....you play where it lies and the previous shot counted.
