peggid -> Hypnosis - cop out or not? (9/27/2012 4:26:13 AM)

i have always fantasized about being hypnotised by a domme but is this a cop out? By being hypnotised i would not be acting under my own free will but part of the joy of servitude to me is i enter into it freely.

Any thoughts?

Actually hypnosis only occurs if you are open to the suggestion. So, you would be acting in accordance to your free will. Moreover, if you want to find someone to hypnotize you, I would make sure that person is qualified. Also, if the joy of serving comes from you doing it freely why would you seek out a venue to have someone "seemingly" force you to do it?

peggid, that's my take as well. But some evidently get off on the fact that they will be offering what they see as involuntary submission, while your thing is voluntary submission.

A hypnotic trance is similar to subspace, but you don't do anything that you wouldn't normally do.

So all them people that clucked like a chicken wanted to do that? It's not always a good idea to play with the brain.

Not everyone can be hypnotised anyway. There seems to be quite a subset of folks into this sort of thing, so check around with your local groups, and of course the pit of Fetlife.

They were open to it and it was a "safe place" in which to accept the suggestion.

ETA: I've done hypnosis both within BDSM and outside of it. Those times in trance where I was given the suggestion of something that was a hard limit for me, I came right out. You have to trust your hypnotist, and I agree that you have to be careful who you choose that person to be. The ones that clucked like a chicken were willing to be part of a stage act. The trance may have lowered their inhibitions (and made them feel safe) enough to "transform into a chicken" but if the idea of it gave them such anxiety that they couldn't relax and play along it wouldn't have worked.

I repeat this over and over...and the people that think it's hot ignore the warning.

If someone is not qualified, they run the risk of brushing up against something they're not equipped to handle or can incorrectly word something that will cause problems.

In college we were shown the example of:

You will feel sleepy and relaxed when you go to the dentist. vs You will feel sleepy and relaxed when you are at the dentist.

The first one caused a car accident on the way to dentist.

I think you have a fantasized view of hypnotism. It doesn't work like that.

peggid -> RE: Hypnosis - cop out or not? (9/29/2012 5:02:00 AM)

i suspect you are right - that is the problem with fantasies!

You worry me.
Begging people to help you learn something
isn't very masterly...

Go and research it if you want to learn it.
What exactly are you a Master of anyway?
Obviously not hypnosis, or self-reliance!

What do you want to know this for anyway...

~~~listen to the sound of my voice~~~
~~~you are getting sleepy~~~
~when I say "go" you will type searches into google~
~~~they will say, "hypnosis tutorial" and~~~
~~~"hypnosis forum" and "hypnosis tips"~~~
~~~"hypnosis discussion"...~~~
~~~...you get the idea...~~~
~~now GO!~~

People in a stage show are usually selected in two ways.
a) it's tested who enters hypnosis easily and deeply
b) out of subset a) volunteers are sought to come on-stage.

People who qualify for a and b tend to consciously or unconsciously know they are going to do some weird stuff and don't object to going along with the show.

VioletViolence -> RE: Hypnosis - cop out or not? (10/5/2012 12:54:06 PM)

I trained as a hypnotherapist and one of the reasons I don't talk about it much within the kink scene is I *always* get people wanting me to "brainwash" them or other equally ridiculous things. Hypnosis is a state of trance, it's not magic or voodoo. You can compare being in hypnosis to being mildly drunk, your inhibitions may be lowered, you could be convinced to do things you wouldn't do while sober/out of trance, but anything that goes against your moral code or really squicks you out is just not going to happen. Your subconscious is always alert and it's not about to let you do something that would be damaging to your mental or physical health.

evesgrden -> RE: Hypnosis - cop out or not? (10/6/2012 5:48:08 PM)

I think people are attracted to the idea of being hypnotized because they believe it absolves them of responsibility for their behavior, or ownership of their kink.

"Oh I NEVER would have done that if I wasn't hypnotized, I'm not REALLY like that".
