OsideGirl -> 3 week old baby abducted (9/27/2012 1:39:17 PM)

Okay, I feel bad for the parents, but part of me is screaming "You left a 3 week old baby in a car alone?!?!?"

Hell, I don't even leave my dogs alone in the car.

I hope they prosecute the parents for neglect.

That story doesn't say they left her alone. Was there another story?

We had a car stolen with a child in it here, from the parents driveway, and there were family standing right next to it. A guy walking up the street jumped in, locked the doors, and took off.

It looks like the news story has been updated now, it says the baby was found at 7pm alive, by the side of a road, and the mother has been arrested.

I wonder whether she was arrested for leaving the baby unattended, or for taking the baby.

The original story had the description of the woman who took the baby and her car. So, I have to think the mother was arrested for neglect or something similar.

It turns out, it was the mother that dumped the baby by the side of the road, and made up the story about the kidnapping.
This state has the Safe Haven Law, which allows parents to relinquish custody of an unharmed newborn to hospital personnel,
and police or fire stations, so I can't imagine how this woman felt this was her only way "out" of parenthood.
She also has an 11 month old daughter. :)

I never understand when people don't use that option. I get that people do some things out of desperation and despair, but it's very difficult to wrap My head around.

I can only imagine some severe case of post partum depression completely eroding her decision making process.

I wouldn't be surprised if the logic was something like 'but everyone knows I've just had a baby, I can't bear to admit that I've given the baby away, but if I fake a kidnapping it won't be my fault'

Yeh, screwy logic, but some women get psychosis post-partum, so it's possible she was so desperate she came to that conclusion.

Especially, since it looks like she got pregnant immediately after having the first.

Athena, I would have to think that you are right. It would explain the woman being out of her head.
