We did not have Showtime when it started and then figured I was so far behind, that it wasn't worth watching. Now that we have Amazon Prime, I've been watching the first season.

I'm enjoying the show greatly but apparently it's written with no researchers on the staff. So many things are incorrect that it's a little distracting.

Thanks for the heads up , Oside. WHat in particular was it that bugged you? I haven't seen it (it's available on netflix), and part of the reason I haven't watched it yet is for that reason: I hate watching something that makes me twitch when I notice glaring inaccuracies...

How can you STAND it?? That beautiful man playing Henry, aside from being NOT GINGER, is twenty years too young and a hundred pounds too light!

Beautiful costumes, the rest might as well be called "what we wish it was like". Eeeh. Like the Cate Blanchett movies about Elizabeth I.

great, Hibbie, you just killed a couple of other movies I had planned to watch LOL!!!

I love the Tudors. Jonathan Rhys Myers is gorgeous and there is a ton of sex and violence, so what is the problem? :)

That history degree doesnt always serve me well... but the Cate movies are tremendous drama fests, just understand that they are fantasy!

Edited for goofy phone typos!

It starts when Henry was in his early 20s, married to Katherine of Aragon, prior to Anne Boleyn.

Much of the action happens at Whitehall Palace which didn't exist. It was actually designed by Anne and Henry.

They say his sister Margaret married the King of Portugal, then married Charles Brandon. Neither of his sisters married the King of Portugal. Margaret married the King of Scotland, then the Duke of Angus and Mary married the King of France (prior to Francis) and then married Charles Brandon. The marriage to the King of France happened when Anne Boleyn was 6 and she was a Maid of Honor.

They show his bastard son, Henry Fitzroy dying as a toddler, when he actually died at 17. His mother was not married to an Earl at the time of his birth.

It's just a bunch of little stuff which distracts me. I'm not even a historian and I can find this stuff.

But, overall, I am really enjoying the series.

At the time Henry married Jane Seymour, he was fat, chronically ill, and had suppurating sores on his legs that could be smelled from the next room. Katharine got the good, young, athletic Henry. Anne got a fat, middle aged man.

There is so much documented soap opera from that time, why go off the rails with made up stuff?

Fabulous costumes. Omg.

I do not care for brunettes generally, OH MY yes, he is very pleasing to look at.

I watched the series once and after the first episode I just knew it was going to be just a historical fantasy. Once I knew that then I could watch it knowing nothing in the show may be correct. Once at that point it was just another fantasy series.

ETA: Who would have really watched the series if it started out with a big guy with sores all over his legs that smelled horrible? Most people watched it because they showed him as young, hot and full of sex with beautiful women with tits pushed up to their necks.

Lucylastic -> RE: So, I've started watching The Tudors (9/30/2012 3:10:14 PM)

Yep Historically innaccurate, but JRM and Henry Cavill made it more than worthwhile, as well as the costumes, I loved it
Im just sad they started and stopped with Henry. Accurate history shouldnt really have been hard. My hubby got fed up with me pointing out the fantasy parts:)
But I might have to pull it out to enjoy the hell out of it again.

I'm on season two. I love Peter O'Toole as the Pope.
