I used it about a week and said fuck it because it friggin hurt!

Then the ex Dom used one on me and again, it just fuckin hurt.

LW, part of the problem may have been the unit itself. If you use a box that has been designed for play instead of rehabilitation...and I recommend the cadillac ET312-b described here ...you will have access to frequencies and routines made specifically for pleasurable genital sensation.

Regular TENS aren't adjustable enough for many people. The 312 can be programmed with sound files (see description in my post above) and made just perfect for each person with diligence and patient experimentation. Also, the type of electrode used can make all the difference between 'OUCH' and "OMG, AHHHHHHHHHH!!' Peruse the board at smartstim.com for more information.

It is not a cheap sport. I have 4 different boxes and a complete arsenal of electrodes for men and women. Let's just say I'm into this for THOUSANDS! To my partners and me, it's been worth all the effort and money many times over.

littlewonder -> RE: ten units (10/1/2012 8:35:46 PM)

ooohh...my ex Dom was a sadist. He didn't buy it for genital pleasure lol.

punisher440 -> RE: ten units (10/1/2012 8:36:06 PM)

OP,I agree with the posters that say to try one before you buy one...some love them,others freak at the sight of one.If you ever decide to buy one,they are offered on places like ebay and others regularly.Make sure you get the right 'pads' for the type machine you get,some are not cheap.The very first time I saw one I was under going rehab for a shoulder injury from a wreck.The therapist kept turning it up higher and higher asking at each level how that felt.I kept telling her more...but she said this is as high as it goes.It did wonders on loosening my muscles after the wreck but still I wished it had higher settings.I have scened with a bottom that had her own TENS with both anal and vaginal plugs and she really enjoyed it.I know I'd enjoy getting one of my own one day,even if a cheaper used one.

Give that 312 a try, punisher. If you make it half way up the scale on the normal setting, I'd be surprised. Switch it to high-power and you'll be yelping on 5 (it goes to 100).

punisher440 -> RE: ten units (10/1/2012 9:22:18 PM)

I'm not sure the model that bottom had,but it wasn't an old medical unit.It had 4 different 'channels' for the wiring so you could do both the anal and vaginal plugs and pad sets at the same time and had multiple different shock wave patterns.I used it on my bad knee and shoulder at about half setting...it was MUCH stronger than the one at the therapists! I tend to like the being 'juiced' feeling,electricity doesn't bother me as much as some.At least to much higher levels,I don't feel pain,only the pleasure of those muscles jumping.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: ten units (10/1/2012 11:23:41 PM)

I have a tens machine, I've never used it for play but I used it in labour for hours on pretty high settings. Are the medical ones very different? Because I felt pretty neutral towards it, just felt like an odd vibration feeling. Though I was distracted at the time.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: ten units (10/1/2012 11:30:27 PM)

Hmm, when attached to the testicles, and the knobs are twisted just so...they can raise a man's voice to a delightful squeaky pitch...I can still hear him singing,
"You are my SUNSHIIIIIIINE..." Good times.

The portable ones are pretty standard/interchangeable, but if you get one from a medical professional, the parameters on them might be set and locked. Therefore fiddling with the dials might not produce much of a change past a certain point.

People have different reactions to the feeling. To some it's pleasant, to some the buzzing is annoying, there are rare few whose nerves interpret the stimulus as noxious and painful no matter what. For me no matter which unit I used and what setting, estim came off as being annoying, I never found it soothing or pleasant. The theory is to overload the larger diameter nerves carrying information to the brain with the tingly sensation- then you don't feel the slower, smaller nerves that carry pain. In other words, the pain signals get blocked before the brain 'feels' them. This is why the units are used for pain reduction. That doesn't hold though if your body interprets the buzz as a negative feeling.

kitkat105 -> RE: ten units (10/2/2012 11:01:24 AM)

Athena - some of the more portable, medical ones have very different settings depending on what muscles they are trying to do. Back when I injured my knee (presurgery), they had me using a very small tens machine (electrode was the size of a golfball) but it was only set between 1 and 1.5.

MistressDarkArt - Thanks for the AWESOME information. Now to convince the other half...

Somuchmoreinsc -> RE: ten units (10/2/2012 2:32:43 PM)

thank y'all for the great information may try but not sure i will like it :-) ill let y'all know

Alecta -> RE: ten units (10/2/2012 3:19:49 PM)

Remember to find out what kind of tens unit and what model it is :)

Darkfeather -> RE: ten units (10/2/2012 3:52:25 PM)

TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Basically, this is a fancy way of saying it uses the same elecro-stimulation the brain uses to stimulate nerves and muscles. These pulses cause said nerves or muscles to react involuntarily: to contract or expand in the case of muscles, or to block or enhance pain reception in the case of nerves. Medically, this is used to exercise atrophied muscles, form new pathways in the nerve network of the body, or increase blood flow of treated body parts. Kinky applications, the involuntary contraction and release of muscles can mimic certain sexual functions when used at low settings. At higher ones, it can cause them to contract painfully. As for nerve placement, one can stimulate the pain response directly, and set how much or little it "feels". Of course, both these functions can be used together to produce some, interesting effects

kdsub -> RE: TENS units (10/2/2012 4:16:19 PM)

Crank it up and I'll tell you it is painful and dangerous. DO NOT place the electrodes at any setting, let alone high ones, where the shock will pass through your heart.

Butch

Somuchmoreinsc -> RE: TENS units (10/2/2012 5:02:33 PM)

ok may try one day but after all this information it will take a lot for me to think about trying thanks y'all

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: TENS units (10/2/2012 5:09:34 PM)

I have an Empi Select which retails for about $300. It's for pain management and, as it's name suggests, has many different setting selections.

I can switch from a very light gentle impulse to one that will literally make my muscles jump all over the place. For pain management, it's very nice with a heating pad over it.

For sexual play, I would recommend a model that has the maximum number of adjustments you can afford. You may like the gentle impulses, or the major tweaking, or all things in between.

I enjoy my tens unit, and so does Himself !!

This is a misconception about the TENS unit, and causes some concern among those interested. It is however quite safe for use in healthy humans, as the pulse used is low and very very short. I reference this article form the FDA where they have found such devices non significant risks http://www.fda.gov/downloads/regulatoryinformation/guidances/ucm126418.pdf.
Listed here is the OSHA rating for effects of electricity on the body http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/construction/electrical_incidents/eleccurrent.html. Even though most TENS units fall in the range of max 80mA, they only last for micro seconds at a time. The OSHA rating is for sustained current. Now this doesn't mean you shouldn't at least know what you are doing before using one, but the chances of bursting into flames or your heart stopping mid beat are really quite low

MistressDarkArt -> RE: TENS units (10/2/2012 5:54:24 PM)

In response to an inquiry about electrodes I posted this journal entry that may be helpful to some:
quote:

"As for the other electrodes, I assume you want male-oriented. I would recommend getting several different types of conductive rubber tubing to use for your penis/testicles. They will last for years. Gary from
http://www.happystim-usa.com/ used to carry a variety pack that should suit nicely for experimentation. I also recommend getting this:
http://www.happystim-usa.com/catalog/i45.html
Combine with this:
http://huse.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HDC&Product_Code=302040&Category_Code=TENS
so the urethral insert is one part of the channel with the other attached to the "prostate" ball. That way you have current running through the prostate, testicles, complete length of the penis and every internal thing in between. Second channel 'ghost f*cks' with the two contacts at the base sending current to rhythmically contract the anal sphincter. Huse's plugs are not tinkertoys...they are built like Mack trucks and heavy as f*ck. Expensive and worth it.

Having lots of sticky pads on hand is good since they are effective on men, women, and acupuncture/muscle points on the rest of the body. Frenchcreekmedical.com is a low-cost, reliable source. Recommend the 2" round or rectangular (or both). They can be cut down with scissors for more concentrated effect. You may also want several sets of conductive rubber pads which can be used for years. You'll need a water-soluble conductive gel to use with pads and rubber tubing; recommend spectragel. KY will work if that's all you have and you can mix a pinch of baking soda in with it to make it more conductive. As it begins to dry out, use a spray bottle with distilled water to keep it wet and conductive."

This seems like an appropriate place to emphasize:

I don't care what you see done in porn; NEVER use electro above the waist. Do not be the dumbass that goes nipple to nipple, thus crossing the heart. Find something else to do with your nipples. Yes, I know electrodes are regularly placed on your neck, shoulders, etc. for physical therapy. That is the BACK of your body, and the current path does not cross your heart.

I never mentioned anything about porn, and I gave plenty of references to support my statement. The TENS unit simply does not give off a sufficient amount of stimuli to effect a healthy human heart. Even trying to find one, yes one case of a death related to TENS caused malfunction to the heart, I could find none. This is because in order to cause a fatality, one would have to a) have a weak heart or an implanted pacemaker and b) place two pole electrodes so the current passed directly through the device or heart. Even then it would be speculation not fact, because no one in their right mind would do something so stupid. There is a big difference between that device and really being shocked. Passing a strong enough house current directly through the chest, yes that could cause death, but you would also have burns and seizures, etc. For the record, a pacemaker uses the same elecrto-stimulation that the TENS unit does, hence why it is probably a bad idea to do both at the same time. These being perfectly fine for maintaining heart rhythm and later, being implanted into the body, are the main reasons the FDA found TENS units not a safety hazard as you claim them to be

Hillwilliam -> RE: ten units (10/3/2012 10:18:18 AM)

I've had 2 hours over the last 2 days of EStim from a TENs unit on my back and Ive ordered one. Depending on the setting, it can HURT or feel like a massage. When mine comes in, I'll let y'all know.
