Yachtie -> Despicable (10/8/2012 12:27:19 PM)

Actress Stacey Dash, who has starred in everything from the 90′s hit Clueless to CSI, prompted a firestorm on Twitter after publicly endorsing Republican nominee Mitt Romney, and then standing by her opinion.

Not long after, presumed Obama supporters began insulting Dash for her opinion, saying she isn’t “black” enough, several even asking if the actress would just “kill herself.”

One man wrote: “This hurts but you a Romney lover and you slutting yourself to the white man only proves why no black man married u @REALStaceyDash.”

“#ISupportStaceyDash regardless of whether she gets a phone call form #Obama or not,” another wrote, highlighting the stark contrast between how quickly Fluke was propped up after being called a “slut” for advocating taxpayer-funded birth control, and how quickly Republican Stacey Dash was dragged through the mud for failing to support Obama in 2012

Such tolerance on display. Really.

That level of intolerance has gone both ways. There is no accounting for people with no class.

Because nobodies on twitter are exactly analogous to a major Conservative leader with a daily audience in the tens of millions. Even for Glenn Beck, The Blaze is his site, this is repugnant.

By this logic all the hateful crap posted on Free Republic is equal in importance to every speech given by romney.

VioletGray -> RE: Despicable (10/8/2012 5:19:41 PM)

Yachtie...

While I lean more toward Obama, I support Stacey Dash's right to support Romney. As a black person who is into the goth scene, I empathize with any black person who's been told they're "too white," because what that person is really saying is, "You're not who you are supposed to be. Black people must act a certain way, and how dare you do otherwise."

However...

Do you really want to turn this into an argument over which side is more intolerant? Really? People say ignorant things on Twitter all the time. It's telling that this is a story BECAUSE it's liberals. But how about the people who deal in politics for a living? The pundits with an audience of millions? Do you really want to match intolerant statements there? In a bigot-off, Pat Buchanan by himself could bury the liberals. What about the politicians and elected officials themselves?

The White House lawn as a watermelon patch?
The e-mailed joke by the judge that Obama's mother is a slut that has sex with canine's?

C'mon, at least part of you knows you couldn't win that fight.

servantforuse -> RE: Despicable (10/8/2012 5:53:04 PM)

White people also eat watermellon. It's been almost 4 years since the watermellon patch email came out. I thought is was funny..

Anaxagoras -> RE: Despicable (10/8/2012 5:59:19 PM)

Indeed people are not always so nice on the Interweb, P&R is probably a case in point but by those standards this still seems to have been an extreme event if the reports are an indicator. Interestingly, in the UK some of those tweets might have even been enough to send a fair number of people to prison! [&:]

You can't be serious!?! Are you really going to pretend that there was no racial context there? If that's really what you're doing then you've reached a level of denial that is incurable.

Also, how can you find it funny without some sort of racial context? What other context between the first black president and watermelons on the White House lawn is there?

servantforuse -> RE: Despicable (10/8/2012 6:05:30 PM)

Did you see the one with the white house kitchen. That had a lot of watermellons in it too. This is not 1865.
