I can understand the school wanting to suspend the students when they thought the breath mints were illegal drugs. But now they know otherwise.

Welcome to our school system. When administrators make mistakes, we punish students. That will teach you to let us look foolish.

If it were me id let the kid treat the suspension as a 2 day mini vacation!

littlewonder -> RE: students suspended over breathmints (10/8/2012 11:46:54 PM)

Yeah...nothing wrong with a 2 day vacation called a suspension....the colleges won't mind when they see that on your record. [8|]

Well Pekin, Ill is a very conservative town, as is most of ILL. the only real Dem stronghold is cook county,

What about Texas school district that requiring students to wear an ID tag so they can monitor them 24/7, that is smaller government staying out of our lives. I get during school hours, but they want to know where they are 24/7 saying it is only for the safety of the students they are concerned about

mussorgsky -> RE: students suspended over breathmints (10/9/2012 5:50:57 AM)

The lesson here is that instead of lower levels of government trying to be like the federal gov, they ALL should be staying the frell out of our lives. I think I speak for the non-existent "average American" when I say that we're sick of their smeg, dren, gos-se, and any other words you'd like to use for that crap.

What the F???

Out of our lives...Gee what party has more restrictions on out lives ?? Which party has put forth bills restricting our rights to our own bodies, what party started all the illegal wiretaps??? What party whats to put their beliefs before yours????

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: students suspended over breathmints (10/9/2012 8:46:44 AM)

I doubt a school would get to up in arms if that was the only ding or was one of the few dints on a record.

I also meant if the school wasn't going to change its mind and suspended them anyway.

They won't.

If one's grades are good or if they are very good at a particular sport or they have money or can qualify for money colleges and universities on the whole could give a flying rats ass about a students "permanent record".

BouncyBoo -> RE: students suspended over breathmints (10/9/2012 3:41:02 PM)

I think the school administration is just too embarrassed (and too immature) to admit they were wrong.

Subspaceseven: "Gee what party has more restrictions on out lives ?? Which party has put forth bills restricting our rights to our own bodies, what party started all the illegal wiretaps??? What party whats to put their beliefs before yours????"

Actually, both of them. Really. When it comes to anti-Republican issues of abortion and marriage, simply ask why the government should be involved in those things in the first place. When it comes to the anti-Democrat issues of the economy and jobs, simply ask why the government should be involved in those things in the first place. Government involvement only creates more problems and never actually solves the original problem. So, yes, Republicans may have implemented wiretap programs and violated a whole host of civil liberties, but did the Democrats stop that once they were in power? Republicans got us into two wars in the Middle East and Democrats screamed for peace... until they got the power. We've gone over three years without a federal budget (over 1200days at last count) and that includes the period when the Democrats had majority control of both halves of Congress and the White House.

The sooner Americans realize that the parties are not polar opposites and are instead best friends is when we'll start to fix this country. It's all a game for the television cameras. Think of it like pro wrestling: yes, people get hurt and it takes skill to get there, but it's all scripted. Both parties want to grab as much power as possible without looking like it. That's why you get idiots like Paul Ryan standing up against the bailouts on the House floor saying that it's the worst thing ever... and he's still going to vote in favor of it. All the parties and candidates put their beliefs before ours, some just play the popularity game a little better.

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.”
― Alexis de Tocqueville
