dc, I think that this case brings together a number of things that bring the growing disparity within America into focus. The case neatly sums up many fears that Americans have about growing wealth disparity, gun laws, race, crime and a person's right to be free from unnecessary interference and a person's right to defend oneself. So for example, race is a factor, the gated community is a factor, guns are a factor, the hoodie is a factor, and the law in question is a factor - many pieces of this represent an "us" vs "them" disparity (however one chooses to define these terms).

Countries in the world that have huge income disparity, and where people live in gated communities and have personal bodyguards (for example, some countries in South America would fit this description) are also not safe, secure places to live or safe secure economies. And this case exemplifies where the US is headed if we are not careful. I think one's viewpoint on this case says a lot about the America that one envisions for the future. And it is rather clear to me that only one of these futures would be considered a success story. [sm=2cents.gif]

I agree that gated communities are inherently divisive and a lost gambit for a population as a whole.

I could tell you what to do about it to evolve a more civilized population - and it will of course take many generations - but unfortunately the biased CM staff have gagged me.

So:
1. -
2. - Institute strict birth control
3. - Prohibit parenthood tests
4. - Do not heal sexually transmitted diseases unless the afflicted person agrees to have less progeny than non-diseased people.

5. Prohibit condoms.

This case just isn't about race at all.

Interesting link, thanks.

Zimmerman's lawyer made some intriguing points in the interview, but the question that kept occurring to me as I read was, "Would a white teen in the same situation have wound up dead?" I honestly don't know the answer to that.

Racism is just icing on the cake so to speak... the real heart of the dumb assed dialog is politics... Conservatives for the gun laws and liberals against. The race of those involved are just side bars... the liberals just know all conservatives are racists... the Europeans, and their brothers the Canadians, think all Americans are cowboys.

Liberals think Zimmerman is a poster boy for conservatives and MUST be guilty… and conservatives think Martin was a dope head punk and deserves to be shot full of holes.

The race of those involved are just convenient for argument.

Rule, while I'm glad we can at least agree on gated communities, I'm not sure how exactly your list allows us to evolve a more civilized population (!?) Perhaps we disagree on the meaning of "civilized" [&:]

I don't know, but for my money this case just keeps the entertainment rolling.

Mark O'Mara is not amused by the Zimmerman Family's choice to launch a media campaign without his input.

There have been studies on gated communities, some studies sugguest a "Fortress" view by those living in the community, also a "Us against Them".

The irony of that being George is a liberal and Obama supporter.

Yeah, faulty premise to begin with.

As a generalization perhaps, but I, for one do not believe that description of Martin.

While sexually transmitted diseases suck for the afflicted individual, they both directly and especially indirectly cause populations to evolve away from the animal status and towards gentler, ethical, more cognitive beings.

The points on the list all have evolutionary consequences.

That's interesting. Where did you learn that? My usual Google geekdom isn't coming through for me.
