Hypothetical question:

If Mitt Romney should be elected in a few weeks, should President Obama try to reclaim the office in 2016?

I would say no.

Parties generally don't want to toss someone into the fray if they have already lost to this guy. The system favors the incumbent. Someone sho lost to X when they were incumbent damn sure isnt going to best X when X is the incumbent unless someting totally disastrous has happened.

Well now, Hill, isn't that exactly what we can anticipate if Romney wins?

There are  higher forces behind a candidate. My feeling is it would be unlikely for Obama to gain sympathy for a second chance. Life goes on. They will find an another operative.
Although, we do not really know what kind of (behind the curtain) support structure Obama has. There are signs it is weak (based on Obama puppet-like performance).

I was trying to be nice. As for disastrous. That depends of whether or not your're a stockholder in the military-Industrial complex that is pulling his strings.

It won't happen. He wouldn't want to take the pay cut.

No, it's that he might not be able to accept the power cut, gracefully.

I hope not. And here's why . . .

Back when I worked in educational publishing, we were planning a Presidents poster, and the designer came into my office a bit distressed. "We have a problem with the Presidents," she said.

Without even looking up, I replied, "Grover Cleveland."

"How the hell did you know that?" she asked.

I cheerfully explained that he's been the bane of anyone charting presidential history since 1893.

I definitely don't want to go through that twice in one project.

Cleveland was a good President, I see no reason why he's a bane.

William Jennings Bryant grabbed the Democratic nod three times. Adlai Stevenson II twice. The Republican's ran Dewey and Nixon twice.

If The President lost in November, he would be a formidable candidate in 2016.

Romney hasn't taken a salary since before his time as Governor.

From an editorial perspective, he's a nuisance because you have to either (a) list him twice (or give him a second page, if it's a book) or (b) put him in his original spot but squeeze in both sets of dates. Both approaches present design problems.

Speaking of Cleveland, The New Republic recently had an interesting piece on him, describing him as Romney's ideological predecessor.

I read this and went Wow, that is the same question I asked when out with friends over the weekend.

Though I do not see him running in 2016, If he loses this election, the only person he has to blame is himself, for not being as assertive as most of his supporters want him to be. Granted, when the the other side is unwilling to move, it is hard to get anything done.

But he has caved in way to soon on several issues thinking the GOP would work with him, when he should have taken to heart what Mitch said about the the only thing the GOP will work towards is making him a one term president, If willard wins I wonder if the Dems will do the same thing to him, just block everything , but I doubt it.

If Romney wins in 2012 the most likely winner of 2016 will be Hillary.

She has indicated she isn't interested in 2016 but you never know.
I wish she had beaten Obama in '08. I'd have voted for her instead of McCain and I feel we would be in better shape now as a nation.
