TheHeretic -> The Benghazi Hearings (10/10/2012 9:16:07 PM)

It really seems we are going to need a place for this one.

Here is the CNN report

quote:

Washington (CNN) -- The State Department's former point man on security in Libya told a congressional hearing Wednesday that his superiors worked against him as he tried to get more help for the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi in the months before it was overrun in a deadly terror attack.

Eric Nordstrom, the one-time regional security officer, told the House Oversight Committee that he had a disheartening conversation with the regional director of the agency's Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs when he requested additional manpower for the facility.

"I said, 'Jim, you know what makes it most frustrating about this assignment? It's not the hardships. It's not the gunfire. It's not the threats. It's dealing and fighting against the people, programs, and personnel who are supposed to be supporting me," Nordstrom said.

He also told the State Department officer, "'For me, the Taliban is on the inside of the building."

GOP Congressman Votes To Cut Funding For Embassy Security, Then Blames Obama For Libya Attacks (VIDEO)

Anyone who claims that a rushed hearing (before the investigation is even complete) four weeks before a presidential election isn`t political, is either lying or might be interested in buying the Brooklyn Bridge.....

You did say you guys were going to get dirty.....

Just to keep it clear on who was saying what, and when, here's a youtube link to ABC's coverage of the State Department getting out a whole new version of their story out, the night before the hearings began.

Owner59, I'd say why it has taken so fucking long to even get an investigation rolling would be an excellent question for the administration to be asked, as the hearings move forward. How many weeks did CNN beat the FBI into the crime scene by?

DomKen -> RE: The Benghazi Hearings (10/10/2012 10:01:31 PM)

Chaffetz, the guy holding the hearing, both voted to reduce the budget for Embassy security and is a campaign proxy for Romney. No one but the right wing is paying any attention to this nonsense.

Right...not only do we have foreign policy experts and security experts here but now criminal investigation experts....with specialize in investigations in foreign countries here.....

We`re so blessed with all that talent, including debate championships.

The FBI`s investigation into the Cole bombing went on for months....until shrub(sorry Tazzy/Lucy) ended the investigation....

But now we have hearings just weeks after the attack and just weeks before the election.

The cons should let the meat roast a bit longer,....it`s still a bit bloody.

Afraid of the truth coming out, Owner59?

Ugh... why you gotta do that! It makes any argument you have to make look petty.

I think its way too early to speculate on anything yet. I reserve the right to weigh in later.

One of the "experts" said there was "only one security officer" at the consulate.

We know that`s bullshit because two of the dead ex-Navy SEALS were part of the security team.

There were other security personnel there too. After the alert, they went to get their long-guns and body armor.

They were overwhelmed by multiple groups of men armed with RPGs and AK47s......

There were also armed groups positioned in the surrounding streets and blocks who appeared out of nowhere, blowing the barbed wire and cement wall surrounding the compound.

When a rapid response team of about a dozen Americans arrived minutes later from a near by compound w/ 60 Libyan militia-men,there were so many armed terrorists there that they had to grab up who was still alive and the dead and retreat by armored car, back to the rapid-response team`s compound. From there they made a b-line to the airport and left.

The Ambassador and his security retreated to a safe room but were overwhelmed by fumes from diesel fuel poured on the floors. He died of asphyxiation from the fumes.

One of his team went back three times into the fortified building but were under fire and could not find him.

The clown this morning ........didn`t witness the attack ,

There was no FBI investigators there, either.

But no one beleives the cons are looking for answers from those who know. The hearing proved that, clearly.

What those ass-holes did today might actually hurt the real inquiry into what happened.

By all means, Tazzy. I just popped the thread up because they are going to be a subject, and another interesting thread got hijacked into it right off the bat.

But it is hardly interesting.  Hardly highjacked. Hardly anything.

What was the investigation when after our Benghazi Embassy was bombed and then 6 mothns later our barracks?  None.   But if there was one it would be no more useful, conclusive or interesting than that one.

It ain't even good theater these days.

There will be pud pounding and gavel banging and paper flurries and talking heads and the final report will say:

They are dead.  There are risks across the globe for American citizens, our diplomats and our troops. More work needs to be done.
