My girlfriend and I have been casually looking for bed frames for a double mattress for some time now.
She would like to use said frame for bondage. Now that her birthday is coming up I'd like to surprise her.

Any online stores anyone could suggest? I think she'd prefer something wooden/normal in appearance
over a cold metal BDSM frame.

I'm willing to pay for this but as an added challenge you could consider that my money wears a corset at all times.

How rough do you play? Because I'd be concerned about those thin slats if there's going to be much pulling against them. If going for wood I'd look for something with good heavy beams and don't buy online - you want to be able to feel how sturdy it is.

A few years ago I had a bed frame made for me by an ironmonger - the head and foot of the bed was made to look like the type of gothic railings you get around a park or a cemetery, complete with spikes. I'd show you but I don't have a photo to hand and it's at my parents house now since it isn't safe with kids in the house. It certainly set a tone though and all the railings gave lots of points to attach restraints to.

@AthenaSurrenders: She's not too rough, it tends to be more about aesthetics for her, the kind of lady that'd stand back and start a painting know what I mean?

We have that very IKEA bed in the guest room. Used it twice, bit of a bother (we use Kimono ties), but we're not the kind of people who really get into the bondage process. We just like the bondage result.

Both times, it was a bent over the bed, hand tied at the headboard deal, with a pillow over the bottom to soothe her precious, milky thighs. How I love those thighs.....

Are you good with DIY? If so, I'd suggest purchasing a study frame like this: http://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Center-Support-Rollers-Locking/dp/B002PCS0O4/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1350048312&sr=1-1 and then building a headboard of your choosing. I personally love this DIY tufted headboard. http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2012/02/diy-tufted-headboard.html You can add these: http://www.amazon.com/CRL-Eyelet-Long-Screw-Eyes/dp/B001C7OQMS/ref=pd_rhf_se_p_t_1 as attachment points.

My bed is a regular mattress on top of a wooden waterbed frame that has drawers all the way around on both sides. I just drilled holes in the wooden frame and put in eye screws on all four corners and in other suitable places for my needs. Then I tie rope and/or tie down straps to the eye screws. It keeps him in place very very well.

Before my present bed frame, I just had a regular metal "hollywood frame" and strung rope underneath the bed and out both sides on both the head end and foot end. The rope I attached to the cuffs on my sub. That also kept him in place very very well. There are some very cheap ways to tie someone down.

I have a 6 foot tall, 6 foot long, five foot wide rope bed with a canopy. I built it out of 4x4 cornerposts, mortised to accept the 2x8 siderails, and drilled through every three inches on all siderails. The canopy poles are heavy aluminum pipes that can support three hundred lbs. and support a large Celtic tapestry. I use two 150 foot long nylon ropes 3/4ths inch thick for the bed ropes. As they pass from side to side from top to bottom and weave through from end to end they tighten the siderails so they cannot slip out of the side mortises. A headboard drops into two slotted channels on the inside of the head cornerposts. The real upshot of this is that the whole bed comes apart for transport, and can be set up easily inside my 16x16 Panther Primitives canvas Regent medieval pavilion. Cuffs and restraints can easily be attached to the underlying rope weave, which supports a thick futon mattress, but I plan on adding large Lion doorrings to the cornerposts where restraints can be locked to the metal rings.

The bed can be easily set up by one person, as you fit one canopy pole in place between your two end posts and then fit the side pole in place between the the head and foot posts, giving you a free-standing tripod. Fit the last two canopy poles to the fourth post and then set up your siderails. This is where it gets tedious, as you have to start threading and pulling 150 feet of rope back and forth and back and back and back and forth... then you move to the ends and start it again, but this time you're basketweaving the ropes over under over under over under over under etc. etc. etc. And every course you start must alternate with the one prior to it, so if pass 10 started by going under the perpendicular rope, then pass 11 must start by going over the perpendicular rope. Once the rope platform is tightly woven you throw your mattress on and start making your bed.

I paid $5 for each 4x4 cornerpost, $12 each for two 2x8x12's that I cut into two 6 foot siderails and two 5 foot rails, $10 for the wood to make the heardboard, $3 apiece for the aluminum poles, and $4 apiece for 8 pipe flanges to accept the canopy poles. The ropes cost the most, running about $90 for two 150 foot runs, so about $182 all told for the bed without the futon mattress, which I already had.

$200 for a 6x6x5 four-poster bed that can be taken camping and is solid and strong as a mountain.

I'm definitely not a DIY type, and my pockets are rather shallow, I think what I'm getting is that the
Ikea bed wouldn't be the WORST thing, especially if I made alterations.

Screwing in hooks/loops would be pretty simple.

I was coincidentally at IKEA today shopping for other things and they definitely had beds with sturdier frames and slats than that. You should go and actually look at/touch them before you decide.

I have a metal bedframe. It's a metal platform bed, which means I don't need a boxspring. It can support 1200 lbs, and, since it's metal, it is one GIANT attachment point.
I really really love it. Plus, it folds up into two small suitcase-sized things - makes moving SO flipping easy.
I got mine from samsclub.com with a memory foam mattress (also amazering), but you can find them at kmart, too.

I can say as a "frugal" person that I've had some spectacularly cheap beds in my life. I've been able to successfully modify every one of them for bondage, so there's no specific "must have" feature. I just moved two months ago and finally bought a nice bed, and admittedly when I was looking at frames I tried to imagine the easiest way to modify each one.

At the end of the day, the best situation is if you have a sturdy metal head and foot with bars, because that's both strong and easy to attach. You don't even need a frame, I had one of those cheap $20 metal frames they give you for free, and drilled a couple holes around the side and attached small carabiners. That required no skill whatsoever and is easily hidden by sheets or a bedskirt if you like. If you have a heavy wooden bed, you can drill some holes in the sideboards and put in eyelets, or if you want to keep the finish unmarred, attach them on the underside. If you've got a really lightweight frame that might break if someone pulled on the side or ends too hard, then pass a chain or rope under the whole bed and attach to that. You can use some cable ties or something to keep the rope from slipping back and forth, but any stress put on it by pulling will be stress transmitted mostly across the rope, not on the frame.

I would definitely not attach anything to the headboard of the bed you linked, it looks way too lightweight to take a rope or chain pulling on one of those dowels.

Oh how I miss the water bed frame! That was the best! Nothing has compared to it. I looked all over trying to find one when I moved here with no luck. With the hooks, the many locks and belting material that could be washed and that had eyelets for the locks... it all made for good times, secure and safe and nothing broke in the middle of a good time.

Just a word of warning about IKEA beds. They probably aren't the best for rough play.

I have the Hopen model IKEA bed frame. It is sturdy but the slats do wear out (supposedly they are under warranty, and I will look into it if my problem becomes frequent). My slats actually hold my mattress and if the slats move, the mattress drops. It's easy to fix, but a pain in the ass if you wake up in the middle of the night to get out of bed, get back into bed and your mattress falls through. Nevertheless, I still love that bed and thankfully the slats have never moved while playing.

I think there are a lot of suitable beds out there, not specifically designed for bondage, but quite substantial. I've got a lovely metal four poster in my room which does the job fine, but it wasn't cheap. My advice would be go out and look around some bed shops, and take her with you. Make it a fun trip, have coffee or maybe lunch out while doing it, and get some ideas of what you like and might suit, Then if you don't find anything that suits your pocket, look for the beds you like on ebay, or whatever the US equivalent is - I have no idea where you live. You'll often find them cheaper on there. And all best wishes in finding something suitable.

I have to agree, the stuff at IKEA tends to be unsubstantial.
