ORIGINAL: servantforuse They gave it to Obama. What's so suprising that they gave it to the EU ? Great point. It`s for peace makers and for peace making organizations....which the EU has been. Actually not entirely. It it normally awarded to a person (or persons,) which the EU as an organization is not - quote:
“The said interest shall be divided into five equal parts, which shall be apportioned as follows: /- - -/ one part to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.” - translation of Nobel's will. Even when it is awarded to an organization a specific recipient or representative is normally named German humorists have asked if German murderers can put their Nobel Peace prize on their parole applications since the prize was awarded to the EU as a whole. Certain French wags wish to know when the medals and diplomas will be sent to France's citizens and what the proper form of display upon their walls are. Others wish to know if they are all required to go to Norway to get their awards or exactly who will receive them as agents. Then the question of have the small fraction of the Euro each will receive will be spent. Obama's award may have been controversial, but he is an actual person. Who in the EU receives the award?
