For reasons not relevant to the poll, I have an upcoming appointment with a psychometry specialist. In explaining, the department head said I am outside the measurement range, which I guess means I may exceed the former minimum estimate of three sigma. More to the point, he explained how some of the things I take for granted as being common sense, instinctive ways for the mind to work are actually nothing of the sort. Given some of what was said in the intellectualism thread, this has made me curious about what the distribution of various posters here are, and whether any of those that deviate significantly from the norm (in either direction) have experienced that it has had any impact on their kink activities and/or lifestyle, or life generally for that matter. As I said, I'm just curious, so please don't read any more into it. IWYW, — Aswad.

I am right there with you Aswad, I also find myself often having problems recognizing that things I find to be common sense or just my way of thinking, is strange.

Dominant, and I can't remember. Last time I tested, it was in the 135-145 range, but I don't recall the exact number. I want to say 143 but I could be mistaken.

Also, I would be interested in seeing a poll comparing the average IQ of people in "the community" against the average of more vanilla folks.

Hilarious poll! Certainly biased for those who would self-identify. IQ does not correlate with ability to respond appropriately to social cues or develop common sense, exemplified by many folks with relatively high IQs yet with Asperger traits/syndrome and little common sense, vs. many folks with relatively low IQs who are sociably adorable and have common sense. Someone said the best determinant of intelligence is that you go to your first MENSA meeting and never return. C'est moi!

When I was young I tested in the high 140's. Now, lots and lots of LSD later, my scores have dropped each time I took a test. I think last time was around 100-Kana be just average smarts. Certainly not smarter than the average bear...or Mouse :-)

I have not marked an option in the poll. I am an other. I do not know what my IQ is. Somewhere below 115, I suspect. A primitive IQ test shows some of my abilities as 112 and another of my abilities as 134. When I did an official IQ test, I claimed beforehand that I am a supergenius and was met with scepsis. Fortunately for a brief moment during the test my former reading speed returned (it crashed about forty years ago) and I was able to answer all questions except one in one of the sections in the available time (I also knew the answer to the last question, but was not fast enough to mark it before the time was up). When reviewing the results of the test a couple of weeks later, they conceded that I might be a genius. However, in my opinion IQ tests fail to discern and measure my ability. They mostly merely measure how fast someone thinks and reacts. They measure the abilities of the high IQ people who designed the tests. They cannot measure the abilities of other-IQs.

Interesting that nearly everyone who took the poll thinks they are a super genius. I'm on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum. It makes most things both easy and difficult in a lot of ways. But kink and M/s have the ability to make things so much simpler and direct... It takes out a lot of the frantic guess work.

I just posted the numbers I've been handed a few times. Sandlwood.......this isn't quantifiable by any means but I've been in and out of kinkdom for 3 decades or so. Kinky folk tend to be more intelligent imo. that could have a lot to do with the fact that my introduction and first several years was mostly folk in and around the university and grad schools I attended and worked at. I can/could do calculus in my head. So, too, could most of the folks I hung out with. Is it any surprise that I'm kinda biased? I can also change the tranny in a 72 torino or frame up a wall or wire a substation. It's all in what someone pursues and whether or not they are ever content.

I've tested as high as 193 and as low as 145 in adult life. When I was in high school, I hit over 200 on one test and that pushed me into accelerated classes. I'm almost positive that test was geared for younger takers so, I tend to discount that. 140 isn't very high, when talking about IQ and every test I can remember judges 160 and higher to be genius. If I'm not mistaken, one must crack 225 to be a super genius but everything has changed. 20 years after I took my SATs, they changed the scoring and I got dumber, apparently. In all of history I have found but a handful of people with my ability. I didn't mean to imply I thought people were misrepresenting themselves... I could have phrased that better. After a few days of reading the forums it seems most here are fairly intelligent and thoughtful. I think the numbers would skew much the same if the poll were presented to the entire site, though. Not with the same extremity, of course. But I wouldn't be surprised if it were close. And I've been reading a lot of messages from the guys on the other side of the site...they are really not the brightest bunch.
