Assuming the piping doesn't have far to go, how much should I expect to pay to have washer/dryer hookups installed?

And should I believe the 27 yo kid from OKCupid who, when I told him I was too busy to see him this week as I was dealing with plumbing, painting, and carpet cleaning, told me he was a plumber and "I'll give you a good price on labor based on how good you fuck." When I told him I wasn't into vanilla sex, he thought I was referring to an interracial thing and wanted to watch.

This...is genius.

Awesome. Pure awesome.

I would believe him, though. You'll note he didn't say he'd give you free plumbing in exchange for sex. That sounds like a real plumber, to me-- still willing to charge you, after he's fucked you.

I told him if I was happy with the plumbing, I'd give him a blow job.

He replied "If I can't do the plumbing, what can I do to still get the blow job? Tonight."

Damn, I bet you don't get that type of detail on Angie's List when looking for a plumber.

Oh, he included his measurements in one of his messages...and wanted pictures of me, apparently not satisfied with the ones I have on OKC.

I said, "If I wanted to get laid I could just ask my old roommate...I am looking for a plumber and you are shining me on."

An average rate of $12 an hour is goo when dealing with a pro . You can get a handy man to do it for maybe $10 . Get everything in writting and let them know what the y will be paid is what you agree on nothing more . If they want to give you just a lump sum for the job then call several plumbers in and take the best price . As for the kid tell him he can do the job for sex but he has to finish it before anything goes on and he buys the supplies .

For a licensed, bonded plumber???

Do you live in Malaysia?

No kidding, they generally charge $25 to $30 an hour in Tennessee (where labor expenses are generally some of the cheapest in the country.)

Call around asking for a few estimates, but expect the job to cost upwards of $200 if the pipes he needs to tap into are pretty easily accessible. Easily accessible would be a house with a crawl space or an unfinished basement. Anything else could be difficult to be get connection to the hot/cold water AND the main trunk of the sewer line (you can't connect it to a sink drain or something similar as it will cause dirty wash water to come up in the sink, toilet, or bath tub.)

Also, don't forget power outlets. Your washing washing machine runs off 110 volt, but generally needs it's own circuit to avoid tripping a breaker. The dryer requires a dedicated 220 volt circuit. Again, get several quotes from electricians. An easy installation for these would run around $100 in Tennessee while a difficult installation could be two or three times as much.

My rent is great for an apt WITH hookups, but nothing exciting without. I wish I knew all this before I agreed to take the apartment, paid first and last month and got it painted. I had initially told the landlord that I wanted quotes before I agreed to take it, but I was going out of town and fell for his Fear Of Loss tactic :(

One licensed plumber, who clearly didn't want to do the job, quoted me $1,200 to hook the washer to the basement. Another, who is interested, quoted me $400-500 for labor and around $100 for parts.

As it's just me and I do small loads, I think I could live with this and then the installation would be in my budget. Would this work if I monitored the draining and ensured that the sink didn't overflow? I have no problem keeping the sink clear of dishes and babying the draining as needed.

Ya, I learned this yesterday. Where were you 10/14???

I see that you are in Massachusetts. Without looking at the job first hand, that doesn't sound like an unreasonable price for labor in your part of the country and the cost for parts is in line with what I would expect to spend doing myself.

It doesn't work that way. The machine dumps out the water at the same flow rate and you'd likely wind up with water overflowing a sink, toilet, or shower stall. In addition, a reputable plumber won't be willing to hook it up at way as it's against building codes.

I'm here now. Will you buy a plane ticket and give me a blow job in advance? ;)

I can't afford the plane ticket plus labor - how about two blow jobs?
