The head of a northeast Ohio charity says that the Romney campaign last week “ramrodded their way” into the group’s Youngstown soup kitchen so that GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan could get his picture taken washing dishes in the dining hall.

Brian J. Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, said that he was not contacted by the Romney campaign ahead of the Saturday morning visit by Ryan, who stopped by the soup kitchen after a town hall at Youngstown State University.

“We’re a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations,” Antal said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. “It’s strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there, and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors.”
He added: “The photo-op they did wasn’t even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall.”

Ryan had stopped by the soup kitchen for about 15 minutes on his way to the airport after his Saturday morning town hall in Youngstown. By the time he arrived, the food had already been served, the patrons had left, and the hall had been cleaned.

Way to piss off some of your support
Wasnt there an outcry over "staged" photo ops four years ago?
so much hypocrisy being studiously ignored this time around:)

This is yet another example of the absolute shit I hate about politics. I hope this story gets A LOT of air time. There is absolutely no way this photo op was done to highlight the work of those volunteers. I find it disgusting when candidates do things during campaigns that they don't do in non-campaign seasons.

This is the kind of thing I really like to see happening.

Mitt Romney was to fly out of Toledo Express Airport, but delayed his flight so he could greet the WWII and Korean War veterans that were on their way back from DC in the last Honor Flight of the season. Romney shook every veteran's hand as they deplaned.

Mitt Romeny is so rich, that if he decides he wants to chat, HE MAKES THE PLANE WAIT FOR HIM.

I wonder if the TSA would let any of us delay a flight to chat with the ground crew?

I'm willing to bet they went through the proper channels to have their flight delayed. And, I'd be surprised if he wasn't flying in a private or charter flight where he's only delaying himself or those he's hired.

Hope he told the old man that his grandchildren better get ready to go get killed for Romney in Iran. All to preserve the peace....
