A Pennsylvania man employed by a company working for the Republican Party of Virginia was arrested by investigators from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s office on Thursday and charged with destroying voter registration forms.

Colin Small, a 31-year-old resident of Phoenixville, Pa., worked for Pinpoint, a company hired to register voters on behalf of the Republican Party of Virginia. Prosecutors charged him with four counts of destruction of voter registration applications, eight counts of failing to disclose voter registration applications and one count of obstruction of justice.

Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson’s office said there was no indication that the activity was widespread in their jurisdiction and said the conduct “appears to be limited in nature.” His office said there is a possibility that additional charges may be filed.

Hutcheson’s office began investigating after the manager at a Tuesday Morning store in Harrisonburg, Va., allegedly spotted a man on Monday afternoon throwing eight voter registration forms into a dumpster behind the shopping center where he works.

A message left for a spokesman at the Virgina Republican Party was not returned. A man who answered the phone at Pinpoint and only gave his name as Ryan said he was not allowed to comment. “I really want to stay out of it,” he said.

John Husted the Secretary of State in Ohio lost his case about limiting voting days. So in response he is cutting back the hours of voting on the last three days prior to the election. Can only vote in Ohio till 2pm the day before the election. God Bless America

To the OP my response is meh. Some dipshit commented crimes and got caught, it's happened to both sides.

What does actually bother me is what you're talking about. Someone blatantly using their position of power to rig an election. That's the guy that I want to see behind bars.

DomYngBlk -> RE: GOP Voter Fraud: Destruction of Records (10/19/2012 11:14:04 AM)

Between that and Clear Channels efforts to keep up road signs telling people either have ID or you can't vote....is the winner. Course, Bain Capital, owns clear channel communications.

How was there any attempt to "rig" the election? Not allowing early voting for the 3 days prior to the election is an attempt to "rig" it? Really? That's ludicrous.

No wonder why the lines were so long yesterday.

Not at all. They scoped out how many folks were voting those last days. Especially the last sunday before. Why you think they were trying to shut it down? So they could make voting better? ....Saving money? what....

It very easily could have been to save money. It costs to have an election. Every day the polls are open, there are people getting paid to be at work. At least the poll workers on election day (the only day I've actually gone into a voting booth; only mention that to show why I have no idea about pre-election poll workers) are volunteers.

Even you don't believe that.....come on

So saving money (but willing to go to court at great expense to try and adhere to a clearly unconstitutional law) is more important than a free vote.

That doesn't seem very American.

The problem is that it wouldn't save money. The polls would still be open but only for certain people.
It cost basically the same to have the polls open for a day whether no people vote or a thousand.

Actually not so ludicrous when you consider that African American churches traditionally hold big get-out-the-vote efforts the Sunday before election.

How was it unConstitutional?

tweakabelle -> RE: GOP Voter Fraud: Destruction of Records (10/19/2012 8:55:52 PM)

From my distant observation post, it appears that:
* Voter fraud is not a significant element in US elections;
*There has been a concerted attempt from one US party to make voter registration, and subsequent casting of ballots more difficult;
*These attempts are in multiple locations ie. they appear systematic; and
*The people affected by these attempts appear to be mainly lower class and minority group members, people perceived as potential Democrat voters.

It's impossible not to consider the possibility that the intent of these measures is to systematically deny suffrage to qualified voters because they vote for the 'other side'. IOW, the GOP believes in democracy only if you vote GOP.

FMRFGOPGAL -> RE: GOP Voter Fraud: Destruction of Records (10/19/2012 9:16:32 PM)

Ummmmm I'm thinking it was not to save any money guys ... Here's an account from Rob Johnson's facebook update (he's the man who witnessed the crime):
Status UpdateBy Rob JohnsonI just saw a guy throw a bag of trash in my cardboard dumpster and speed off. I went to get the bag and throw it in the trash dumpster. In the bag was a folder containing FILLED OUT VIRGINIA VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS!! I called the Harrisonburg Registrars office and they sent the police who said they really didn't know what to do in a case like this because its never happened before. The police took the forms and left. I'm really concerned because today is the last day in Virginia to register to vote and if these forms are tied up while trying to figure out what to do, will these people be allowed to vote??? I'm tagging you Lowell since I thought you might want to follow up on this. I spoke with Debbie at the Harrisonburg office and police spoke with Doug at the Rockingham county registrars office.

And, these churches can't have get-out-the-vote efforts the Sunday before that? That's just a scheduling thing there.

DaddySatyr -> RE: GOP Voter Fraud: Destruction of Records (10/19/2012 9:32:20 PM)

Wasn't it just two or three months ago that PPLs were claiming that any voter fraud that might exist was insignificant? Yes I know this instance isn't the same kind of thing as dead people (in the bodies of non-citizens) voting but, I remember that outcry; that it didn't matter. It wasn't going to make a difference.

Well, this guy's accused of destroying 8 registrations? Trust me, the bleeding hearts that want voter fraud laws stopped have made sure that there's one thousand times as many non-citizens voting, this go 'round.

So, best advice: Swallow your own fuckin' medicine that you were pushing a few months back and like the taste. How d'ya like me now, biotches?

Peace and comfort,

Michael
