Toppingfrmbottom -> how are ppl getting hacked through use of facebook? (10/20/2012 9:25:07 PM)

/

If you've been hacked what do you do?

I have apparently been hacked, but I don't open virus's or click on links others who've been hacked have "sent" so I don't know how it happened.

A friend of mine said a lot of ppl are being hacked through fb, and their email address is being used to send spam and virus links.

Everyone in my address are getting emails using my email name, but I'm not sending it.

I'm deleting all my contacts, and ive started a new email addy, and if facebook is really a culprit, I wont be using fb anymore.

If you have been hacked on Facebook, you go THERE to the help section, and follow what it tells you. Usually stuff like change your password and such.

Is there a way to know if it was fb or totally random?

With the exception of the more rare actual hacks of major website accounts... usually people are "hacked via facebook" by either:
1) Clicking a faked password reset/support e-mail and actually giving their information away to whoever sent it.
2) Using really poor passwords that are easily guessed/broken. (or using easy to obtain info for resetting)
3) Getting infected with malware that takes their information, facebook included. This can be "sent" via facebook by others there sending links or files.
4) They reuse the log in/password that facebook uses on other, less secure, sites that then go to facebook, see the info works there too, and then start doing more damage.

Generally if a large company like facebook gets hacked, you will see it in the news since there will be a huge "thousands/millions of users info hacked" story about it.

As to your e-mail, make sure your PC is clean, change your passwords, and tell everyone to not click on any weird looking crap coming from your e-mail (which is always good advice).

virus's

Couldn't tell you about FB. But you might want to read this thread:http://www.collarchat.com/m_4273003/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#4273019 since I see the syndrome a lot in your posts.

If you go to Account Settings, and then Security Settings, the very last option on the page says Active Sessions. Go there and see where you are logged in from. One will be the city you live in, or the local city your internet comes from (like, I live in Moosecrotch, but mine is active from Lynchburg, which is 20 minutes away). Sign out of all the ones that you are NOT familiar with. If you use your mobile phone to log in, that may be one of the unfamiliar ones, but it is still best to sign it out, and deal with logging back in on the mobile.

Ok. I just did a random check. If you log in from your mobile, it will say device type. Make sure you check that too. If you have an android, you shouldnt be logged in from an iPhone, etc.

No idea how the viruses are happening. Facebook is NOT, however hacking you, if you have been hacked. Like someone posted it could be malware, could be that you have a weak password. If the email that you created your facebook with has the same password AS your facebook, thats fuck up number one.

I use passwords that I assume you'd have to know us personally to know. Its not some common piddly lil pw like password or 123456. Or ninjas. All examples of real passwords ppl have used

And I use both letters and numbers. Forcexample and totally not a real pw, G1nger$park39410

I assume hopefully its not easily guessed.

I also never log in using email links if i recieve an email saying theres some issue n i must correct it and i can do so by clicking a link in this email, i type in the website directly, then i ask them directly what potential problem there is I never, ever reset my password by an email notification showing up in my inbox I didn't ask for. . I have never fallen for that phishing technique.

I don't click random links I don't know what they are either. If a friend sends me something I ask what it is before opening.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: how are ppl getting hacked through use of facebook? (10/21/2012 1:00:32 AM)

I changed the pw.

Have you checked what apps you may have allowed? Some apps publish with your permission, but without you having to push a button (Horoscopes, for instance).

Again, make sure your email password GREATLY differs from your FB password.

Check that security session thing in my last post.

If all else fails, trash that account, and create another.

We're using a kindle, ill ask him if there's any apps that could publish w/o permission.

Ooook. It says ranch cordova and amazon silk. I live in elverta, but its possible that's where the signal comes from.

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: how are ppl getting hacked through use of facebook? (10/21/2012 1:32:35 AM)

No. Not kindle apps. I am talking about the apps on facebook. Like games or something. Some people mistake those as spam or viruses because they do post as you (again, you have to give your permission) often.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: how are ppl getting hacked through use of facebook? (10/21/2012 1:50:29 AM)

I don't play games or anything extra on facebook. I talk to my SIL and I post now and then. There's no apps listed when I check ape.

Sounds like you just need to go on, go to the help section and see what all you need to do, if you still have control of your account. If you do not have control of your account, they have steps to help you gain access.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: how are ppl getting hacked through use of facebook? (10/21/2012 2:15:22 AM)

Will it help not to have a contact address book. So that way presumably hackers cant send that spam shit to everyone in your email addy book?

ashjor911 -> RE: how are ppl getting hacked through use of facebook? (10/21/2012 5:09:42 AM)

Unless you had an incredibly rare situation, or this was someone you had very specific access, it's just more likely they had access to your accounts for 3 months.

Dropping in a payload of malware and letting it sit while it collects information for awhile (or just simply being too busy with other infected systems to get around you the next "batch" for awhile) is pretty common.

Didn't you ask this question before? Why not just go back and look at the responses that were given then?

It may be that you were not hacked. Your PC may have been hijacked. You opened a link in an email you received and let loose a program that spams your Contacts. Definately change your email passwords and don't even open any emails that have a faulty subject line or come from a 'friend' whose handle does not match the one in your Contacts.
