Congratulations to me - I have not had a cigarette in 13 3/4 days. I am not saying the "Q" word just yet, but the possibility is looking very good.

I walked past someone smoking today and I was heavenly - however - I do not buy cigs.

Maybe I'm really on the wagon.

You are all welcome to congratulate me to - I'd appreciate it. I haven't said anything at home because if I start again, I'll never hear the end of it.

So far, so good.

So when we get to meet you at the munch you'll be free of cigarettes?

Congrats. I hope the streak lasts a lifetime.

Gloria - I'm looking forward to the next Saturday event. I am not promising no cigs, but it is a distinct possibility.

Wonderful newflowers.

Listen, as someone who quit half a lifetime ago (am now 52) I can tell you this: experts say you need 21 days - three weeks - to kick the physical addiction to nicotine (of course YMMV, but that's the magic number and it was true for me).

Make ONE rule, and you'll be home free: don't TOUCH a ciggie. (not don't smoke...just don't touch!)

If it helps, imagine you're all hooked up with MR. RIGHT out there in sunny CA, and surrendering THIS to him. (If it was me, you'd bet I'd be demanding it! Besides the fact that it gives a slave ashtray-mouth, I've got a touch of asthma, so I literally can't stand the smoke).

Whatever mind tricks it takes, go for it. Geez, these days even Phillip Morris wants you to quit! Have you ever checked out their oh so helpful new commercials?

(Not to worry, PM stockholders. PM isn't showing them to the billion or so Chinese they've discovered. That's just an AWESOME market, without those obnoxious American Cancer Society types).

Best wishes - really and truly

Yankeestick

Well done - wow - I have never smoked but come from a family of heavy smokers (hmmm maybe thats what put me off....) and from them I can understand how hard it can be to stop..........so good luck for your smokefree future - YOU CAN DO IT..........

Keep going, you are doing great!!

newflowers -> RE: smoking (11/9/2004 6:56:29 AM)

Thanks everyone - I can add four more days making it through one really hard day when I wanted a cigarette so badly I could tase it.

I am not buying any. I have not bought any. I don't know about the 21 days - I hope it is true because I still want to smoke, I am just not doing it.

Thanks bunches -

Think knowing if i stopped and that cane would hit me would be a better incentive...

Maybe a flogger as a reward *grins*

Best of luck newflowers!

I was thinking the same thing Jenn. The cane sounds wicked enough to do the job.

dixiedumpling -> RE: smoking (11/9/2004 1:04:26 PM)

YEA!!!! Good for you! As someone hooked on "smokeless tobacco" once told me, "Cocaine ain't got nothing on nicotine as far as being addictive goes."
