I'm having trouble upgrading to IE 8. I meet all the requirements and this laptop is only two years old. But when i try to download IE 8, it say my computer does not have the capability. Does anyone know what may be the problem? Many thanks in advance...

first check with the makers site if your bios and drivers need updating.  Thats usually the biggest problem.

Firefox works great, but some websites do not support it due to security issues. So it may or may not solve her problem.

the biggest problem is a nasty program, more of a virus really you can find it in using windows explored and delete it its called "IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe"

It will mess up your computer with boat. (um in the interest of not causing further harm.. that nasty program is also called IE8 and you should download firefox, points like she said.

ignore the advice above me. IE8 or what ever version is not the big evil virus demon people proclaim it to be constantly.
You need to check the error code as to why your computer is not accepting IE8, which BTW, should have been offered years ago as we are now on IE9 for windows Vista or 7.

Anyway, there is a code... something like 0x800000, that code will tell you why it cannot be installed. Just as a guess I am going to predict that your windows updates have been disabled, simply because that particular update should have been installed 3 yrs ago.

if you can find that code, you can visit the website www.microsoft.com. On the search engine paste in the error code, with the words error code number ------ that will send you to a solutions page.

IF you cannot find a code, visit that website anyway. Look for microsoft fixit, windows update.
There is a tool you can use to correct errors.

good luck.

i had no problem whatsoever in upgrading to Windows 8; i am running Windows 8 Release Preview; i also have 8 GB DDR3; not that it requires that huge amount; i just like to max out memory so the system can multi task better.

IE 8 or windows 8?
If you're running wiindows 7 you should have at least IE8 already installed.

I wonder if your favorite gaming site is pogo?
They are phasing out support for IE7, but you can still play games using it.
And yes, sometimes Pogo is a little cracked, and will tell you to update IE or java, etc,
even when you have the current updates.

Edited to add a link.

I think you are mistaken. I have been using firefox since not long after its first beta release and have never encountered a site it couldn't access, including one of my family members super secure federal database connections. If you want to talk about unsecured browsers, IE is the worst offender, followed closely by Chrome.

I'm not mistaken. My company's site will not work with Firefox. But, who am I to argue with a web programmer since they clearly know everything.
