Time has the same story .. "In 2011 for the first time since 1949, the US became a net exporter of refined petroleum products. Several studies this year project that by the end of this decade, the US will surpass both Russia and Saudi Arabia and will become the worlds largest producer of oil and liquid natural gas." Time Mag. 10/29/12 "This will be the fourth straight year of crude increases and the biggest single-year gain since 1951. The Energy Department forecasts production of crude and other liquid hydrocarbons, which includes biofuels, will average 11.4 million barrels per day next year. " Yahoo article.. This is bad news as far as I’m concerned...We need to forget Oil, which will run out in the US soon enough, and get going on alternative fuels. This temporary upswing in production will not last. This will just make people and politicians complacent until it is too late to stay ahead of diminishing oil energy. When the hell will we learn to plan for the future. Butch

Here are some data about oil. Look at the numbers and it will become clear why the US has "peace missions" in the Middle East, and Africa. http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2010/jun/09/bp-energy-statistics-consumption-reserves-energy Some increase in energy production does not mean much in longer perspective. Besides, the new fracking technologies are so bad one should ask if they could continue at all or they need to be stopped.
