I once knew of a dom who said he switched roles with his sub for one week and she wept because he was a better sub than she was. To me, a good dom can read his sub very well. I'm not well at reading people so i would fear constantly getting it wrong. And since i do not want to be with a switch, i couldn't imagine being the dom.

Running my own life can be difficult much less running someone elses. Someone could put a whip in my hand but i couldn't lift it. I do not have a sadistic bone in my body. On the flip side, i could do things like encourage, aftercare, things that show the softer side of a dom.

Being obedient because you master yourself is a far cry from obeying because you are inspired. Bottoming is not the same as submitting.

As for topping, I know lots of bottoms and submissives who are wicked tops but I am also part of an insanely.large and vibrant kink scene.

maybe so Michael, I'm just using his wording. I'm interpreting the OP's question as more getting out of the comfort zone of our own personality traits to a higher degree, as bdsm goes more extreme in the literal sense than a vanilla relationship. Bottoming, submitting, slave are handy little buckets we use differently, be it labeling ourselves or others.
