i hope everyone in its path is able to weather the storm!

jezzabelle -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/28/2012 4:20:40 PM)

We're all stocked up, everything is tied down or put away. School is already cancelled for tomorrow so now we just wait. Good luck everyone!

kalikshama -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/28/2012 4:41:36 PM)

I'm making ice in trays and plastic bottles.

Any supermarket horror stories? Mine was just a little busier than ordinary (I'm north of the expected path.) I saw some good hurricane parties in the making.

kallisto -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/28/2012 5:21:41 PM)

Yall be careful!!! We're so far off the path of this storm, yet we've been dealing with wind from her since last night. I can't imagine what yall (that are in her path) will go through. Be safe!

littlewonder -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/28/2012 7:21:54 PM)

I live in Baltimore, MD. Thankfully I live in a loft and Master is out of town safely very far away from Sandy. The city has already closed all schools and government offices and colleges have been closed. The sandbags have been put in place and the streets are already as empty as the supermarket shelves and Home Depot has sold out of generators.

Last year we had a citywide power outage from another storm and some people did not have power for a week and a half. This time, no one is taking any chances. Thankfully my daughter is in a pretty safe area as well.

Ocean City, however is already getting fucked by the storm. Photos are showing waves as high as the piers and piers being torn apart. And the hurricane hasn't even hit yet.

As much as this is probably selfish to say...ok, it's selfish [8D] but I'm hoping things are still messed up into Wednesday so I don't have to go to my last class of the week.

I have always been fascinated by meteorology, so this storm is pretty fascinating. When a noreaster and a hurricane combine, it makes it similar to a tropical cyclone like we have back in Australia.

I hope everyone on here that lives in the areas can stay dry, warm and safe xo

I am not happy here in NNJ. I live on the river side and even with ordinary rain and wind, it is bad here. So, I am pretty freaked out about this.

I am out of D batteries as well, none to be found yesterday or today where I live.

I can only hope for the best.

I will cross my fingers for you sexyred, you are much closer to the path of the hurricane than I am!
I am surprised you didn't have to evacuate.
Stay safe.

AVegasMaster -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/28/2012 8:22:35 PM)

OK, so I WILL NOT move back to Long Island right now.

graceadieu -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/28/2012 8:31:09 PM)

I live in Central/Western Maryland, so we'll probably be right in the path, though I think the storm will have petered out a bit by the time it gets here. Fortunately our house is near the top of a hill, so I'm not worried about flooding. We've got a few gallons of water, some non-perishable food, some extra ice in the freezer to help keep stuff cool in case of losing power, 2 flashlights, and we only lost power for a couple hours last time, so I think we'll be good. I'm not actually that worried, just a little grumpy that we'll be cooped up inside for a couple days.

And thank you to poise for the laundry tip! I hadn't even thought of that. I'm going to throw a load on right now.

I was reading up to a third of the US would feel the brunt of this. I'm wondering how it will affect the election.

Well, Maryland cancelled early voting tomorrow and Romney cancelled some appearance he was making in Virginia. That's all I know about.

I think it's too close to the election for either candidate to use it as a political issue, though, if that's what you mean.

RemoteUser -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/28/2012 9:33:26 PM)

I once walked through a hurricane as it shrieked down the main thoroughfare of my hometown home, a little over a decade ago. It was kinda fun, actually.

This one looks lame and tame by comparison: this is what is predicted. Rain? Bah. At least my son will get mileage out of his new rain boots!

littlewonder -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/28/2012 9:44:35 PM)

The fishing pier in Ocean City, MD is now gone, before the hurricane has even arrived.

MistressDarkArt -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/28/2012 9:55:24 PM)

I wish everyone a safe transit through the storm.

Remember, in a pinch you can use your cell-phone as a flashlight especially phones that have a flash. There are dozens of free flashlight apps, and some of them have a strobe function if you need to get help.

littlewonder -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/28/2012 10:08:34 PM)

Yup, that's why I'm making sure my phone is fully charged if the power goes out. I love my phone flashlight.

Statue of Liberty Cams you can hear the ferocity of the wind. I hope everyone will stay safe from this storm!

Hope everyone in the path of this storm stays safe and please let us know how you are as you are able to.

TallullahHk -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/29/2012 6:14:47 AM)

It's still pretty quiet in Boston but they are predicting the worst will arrive around noon. A few costal towns are being evacuated.

All schools are closed and my office is closed as well.

I'm very close to the water and pray I don't have to evacuate!

kalikshama -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/29/2012 6:32:56 AM)

M has finally informed me that he won't take the AC out of his window until later this week claiming "Wind is not going to rip an AC out of a window, and it can't come out now, it is soaked and full of water."

If our expected wind gusts of up to 75 MPH do rip the AC out, only his stuff will be damaged, but now I'm obsessing about this and don't know if I should give him an ultimatum to come home and deal with it or I will ask a neighbor to help me. Prolly I should just say fuck it, but that's hard for me.

sexyred1 -> RE: Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm (10/29/2012 6:34:51 AM)

Take it out. I had my super come by yesterday and take all my AC's out of the windows. Since I am on the river side, they indeed can be ripped out of the window.
