Is it kind of an unspoken rule to put "using fast reply" when you post without reading the entire thread/aren't replying to anyone besides the OP?

I've seen it somewhat regularly and not sure if it's the unspoken rule or just personal preference for some posters, so just wanted to ask about it.  Thanks [:D]

I don't believe there are any unspoken rules here.  When you use fast reply, the post shows that you're replying to the last person to post before you.  I mark a post as {fast reply} when I want to make sure that the previous poster understands that I'm not replying to what he wrote

{Fast Reply}

See what I mean?

mastersayed -> RE: Fast Reply? (6/14/2006 10:12:03 PM)

it doesnt say {fast reply} when i use the fast reply button...I'm confused

Even fast reply doesn't keep others from taking offense to something you quoted even if only to make a point.

No, no, it doesn't automatically say it, you're not confused, sorry lol  I meant when the actual person types out the words "fast reply" themselves, they do it on purpose, it isn't just there [:D]

Thanks for the replies, I'll try and incorporate it into my own posts, but it's good to know it won't matter much if I space out and forget.

Only registered to one other forum, so didn't know if the novice in me just didn't learn this 'rule' previously, or if it was a preferencial kinda habit [:)]

IronBear -> RE: Fast Reply? (6/15/2006 3:57:38 AM)

If I havent read the whole thread I'll usually make a comment to that effect and that I'm replying to the OP....

RavenMuse -> RE: Fast Reply? (6/15/2006 4:05:56 AM)

A lot of the time it should be pretty obvious to whom the reply is ment, this for instance is unlikely to be read as a reply to what Ol' Ironbear posted but rather as a general reply to the thread/OP yet because he was the last poster it will be labled by the system as being a reply to him.

Mostly if it matters then I will reply to the poster I am addressing, oft including a quote of the specific part of their post I am refering to. Other times sure, I forget, mostly there is no confusion, but on the rare occassion there is a lack of clarity then a quick note to point out to whom the origional post was a reply to sorts out any problem.

Bearlee -> RE: Fast Reply? (6/15/2006 5:49:18 AM)

Seems a shame that when one DOES use 'Fast Reply'...THOSE words don't print at the bottom of the post...instead of 'in reply' to the name of the person in the previous post.

Perhaps that should be a suggestion to the 'Improving CollarMe' thread?  [:)]

Arpig -> RE: Fast Reply? (6/15/2006 6:42:19 AM)

Now THAT bearlee is a damned good idea!!!!! I will post it there, giving you all due credit for it as well [:)]

I think it's a nice courtesy used to avoid confusion.  Imagine that I wrote the last post, but you are writing something in reply to someone else who's opinion chafed your ass (not that mine couldn't, lol)...  Noting fast reply clears that up and doesn't leave me wondering who pissed in your weaties yah see?   M
