Think it is pretty clear now from performance that President Obama exhibited the qualities that we all look for in a Leader. In sheer political terms it has been a grand slam and slammed the door on any attempt by Romney to win the election.

YAY the President acted Presidential for the third time in four years, let's applaud him and all change our votes...[8|]

Many of the states being hit by Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm are blue states. How much are these poor people going to be thinking about the election when their lives are torn apart? How will all the people needing aid after the storm be able to get immediate help? I don't see how they can with there being so many of them. Doesn't the president often get blamed? Is President Obama's chance of getting re-elected now slim to none because of this natural disaster being so close to Election Day?

I always vote in my home precinct on Prudence Island. My family has had a presence here since the mid 1800s (mother's side), and since elections came to the island, our vote has been counted. And thanks to it's very low population, our votes are on paper and called in to the state board of elections.
And since we are probably among the most beaten up communities, we were more than read for the 90 mph+ blowout.

We did great. Our house is made of fieldstone and has a well maintained slate roof. We actually served as a shelter of sorts. There's 1/2 a dozen elderly couples that live off  the "top road". In the mid afternoon before the gusts topped 60, I went out in our old 64  dodge power wagon and picked them all up. Dad cooked a 23lb Turkey with all the fixings and we actually had a good time. On our official Thanksgiving, we'll yet again be very thankful for what we've been allowed to have in life.
Thanks, and I hope you and yours came through well.

We all came thru it in varying degrees of dis/comfort.I'm in NC,but the family is up in New York.My son in Brooklyn actually had a "hurricane" party ,while my sister on Long Island lost all power.
Mt son's hangover is long gone,my sisters power is still gone [&o]
Your description brought forth visions of Norman Rockwell,I imagine you were a thing of beauty pulling up in that 64 dodge to pluck the elderly couples from their exposed positions.
A very sweet image I'm sure.
edited cause I felt like it.....lol

Good question.

Unfortunately, I have this concept locked in my head of the electoral map, and almost all the states are foregone conclusions. Only the swing states matter.

The following changes occurred due to Sandy:

1. It let Obama look more Presidential. And the country tends to rally 'round during a tragedy (think 9/11 and Bush). Plus for Obama.
2. It makes getting to the polls more problematic. The lower income folks may have less motivation to go vote, and they tend to vote Dem. Plus for Romney.
3. It makes getting to the polls more problematic. So the early voters may influence the election more than typical. Plus for Obama.
4. One of Obama's negatives, that he cannot work with the GOP, is being eroded by Christie due to the storm relief. Plus for Obama.

While it looks overall favorable for Obama, I weight #2 more heavily than the others, but expect #1 to weigh as well, especially since Brown squeaked in and criticized Obama for doing too good a job, reminding everyone of Bush's Katrina response.

That said, I see Ohio, Virginia, and Florida as being Romney's troika. He needs all three to get to 270 (and some additional luck even then). I expect him to take Florida and perhaps Virginia, but lose Ohio and the election. I don't see Sandy affecting that.

slvemike4u -> RE: How will this natural disasters affect President Obama? (11/1/2012 8:16:04 PM)

He can't win Ohio, therefore he can't win the election.
Ryan can't even get him Wisconsin ...which doesn't bode well for his future plans.
Romney has no future, not in public life anyway,After running for this office for about 8 years in total.... voters, even Republicans, have had enough of this loser.
He continuously touts all of his time in the private sector...well he is going to get more of it [:)]

erieangel -> RE: How will this natural disasters affect President Obama? (11/1/2012 10:36:02 PM)

I see #4 as having the most weight with the few undecided voters out there.

For anybody concerned about Obama's ability to unite dems and reps., Christie's praise only high lights the republican obstruction of the past 4 years. And given that Christie is one of the most popular republicans in the country, if he can praise Obama, it might just sway some republicans into voting for Obama over Romney, whom they dislike anyway.

DarkSteven -> RE: How will this natural disasters affect President Obama? (11/2/2012 6:12:28 AM)

Addendum:

#5. The federal response to Sandy shows that there are times, ideology be damned, when a strong federal government is needed. Plus for Obama.

papassion -> RE: How will this natural disasters affect President Obama? (11/2/2012 10:15:38 AM)

With the severe damage from the storm, it will take a while to get things halfway normal. We are spoiled brats as a nation and any little inconvience will cause us to bitch against the forces trying to repair the damage. There are already stories about looting, gas shortages, food and water shortages, people fighting over stuff, etc. If the spoiled public thinks the government is taking too long to fix things, they will blame Obama. If its gets fixed fast, Obama will get the praise.

tazzygirl -> RE: How will this natural disasters affect President Obama? (11/2/2012 12:03:56 PM)

And price gouging... dont forget that!
